Asthma Education Empowers

Asthma is one of the key respiratory conditions caused by

inflammation and narrowing of the small airways. The common
symptoms include by wheezing, coughing & chest tightness. It
is estimated that Asthma affects 262 million people worldwide &
has resulted in 4.5 Lacs deaths worldwide. It is the most common
chronic disease among children and affects about 14% children
worldwide. Asthma if untreated can significantly affect the quality of life and productivity
of the workforce (Data Source – WHO)

Every year, World Asthma Day is observed on first Tuesday of May (7th May 2024). The
aim of this day is to improve asthma care around the world by educating people about
the disease and promoting better management and prevention strategies. This will help to
reduce the impact of asthma on individuals, families, and communities around the world.

The theme for 2024 is “Asthma Care for All". This theme highlights the significance of
providing individuals with asthma the knowledge to effectively manage their condition and
recognize when medical assistance is necessary. Healthcare professionals are urged to
heighten their awareness of the ongoing preventable morbidity and mortality associated
with asthma, as well as the evidence-based strategies for its optimal management,
ensuring they can deliver informed guidance and treatment to their patients.

Let’s build programs to enhance awareness and education on asthma care and
management across the organizations. This will help reduce the burden of asthma on
individuals, families, and communities worldwide.

This year, attention is directed to-

people are increasingly exposed
