t tests, and the one-way ANCOVA. P value less than .05 was
considered as level of significance

The data gathering tool was a questionnaire, which was completed

before, immediately after, and 2 weeks after the intervention by the
researcher. The questionnaire consists of two parts. The first
section consists of 12 questions relating to personal and
professional information, including age, gender, marital status,
education level, number of children, income, years of work
experience, work experience in the ICU, type of employment, and Nazari(1)
work shifts. The second part includes the OSI, which was first used
in 1987 by Osipow et al. This instrument has been frequently used
by researchers in the country and its reliability was calculated and
verified with Cronbach’s alpha at a satisfactory level of 0.89%.[26]
It consists of 60 questions and is graded based on a 5 ‑point Likert
scale, from never to always

Data was entered into a Microsoft ExcelÒ worksheet and

processed by the program Statistical Package for Social SciencesÒ
(version 17.0.). Since there was a normal distribution of the
population sample, the paired t test was applied for continuous
variables in intragroup analysis before and after the intervention.
For analysis between groups, it was applied the analysis of
Montibeler(1) 38
variance (ANOVA) in order to verify associations between two
variables. For the variables obtained through the WSS, was applied
the chi-square test ‘(χ²)’ because this is a nonparametric method
designed for evaluation of evidence of association between two
categorical variables. The analyzes considered 95% Confidence
Interval (CI) and p-value of 0.05
Data collection was done at baseline and 3rd month. Data was
entered in Microsoft Excel and was analyzed in STATA version 12.
Per protocol analysis was done. The categorical variables were
summarized using absolute frequency and proportions and the
quantitative variables were summarized by mean, standard
deviation. The significance between the 2 groups was assessed by Mandal(1)
Fisher Exact/Chi-square test for categorical variables and unpaired
t-test/Wilcoxon rank-sum test for the continuous variables. The
effect size for the primary outcome variable was calculated by
standardized mean difference.45 The level of statistical significance
was considered as 5%.
