Chapter I
The Problem and Its Background
Rationale

Motivation is an internal process. Whether we define it as a drive or a need, motivation is

a condition inside us that desires a change, either in the self or the environment. When we tap

into this well of energy, motivation endows the person with the drive and direction needed to

engage with the environment in an adaptive, open-ended, and problem-solving sort of way.

The essence of motivation is energized and persistent goal-directed behavior. When we are

motivated, we move and act. Motivation is influenced by the satisfaction of needs that are

either necessary for sustaining life or essential for well-being and growth. Physiological

needs for food, water, and sex (yes sex) serve the organism to maintain life and provide

satisfaction. Psychological needs for autonomy, mastery, and belonging direct our behavior in

much the same way. As do the needs for achievement, power, closure, meaning, and self-

esteem. Some of these needs will become motives as will all the intrinsic activities we engage

in.

According to Reeve (2015), our environment and social context will play a significant

role in terms of extrinsic motivation. We will also be motivated by goals, values, and desires

to experience specific emotions associated with certain end-states. The best way to explain

motivation is to show what it looks like in everyday life. Here is an example of possible

motivational reasons for a person to exercise.

According to Cheng & Dornyei (2007) Motivation is considered one of the rudimentary

elements that define failure and success in L2 learning; therefore, using motivational

strategies can be considered a critical feature of language instruction and learning . The

interest in the notion of motivational strategies can be traced back to the early 1990s.

According to Dornyei & Guilloteaux, (2008),Motivational strategies mainly refer to

teachers’ instructional and educational combination to show and nurture the student’s

motivation Dornyei (2001) motivational strategies are defined as “those motivational

influences that are consciously exerted to achieve some systematic and enduring positive

effect”.

According to Barron & Hulleman, 2015; Flake et al., (2015). Expectancy–value–cost

theory (EVC) is an established motivation framework that considers the factors that make

motivation more likely and those that actively detract from motivation to complete a task.

The promoting factors are grouped into expectancies (e.g., built expectations of success,

perceived self-efficacy, and acquired confidence) and task values (interest, fulfillment, and

utility). Some factors actively detract from motivation to innovate which are holistically

termed “costs” which include prices that someone would pay to complete a task which can

encompass pressure, stress, monetary considerations, and implications of failure.

According to Siedentop (1992) In recent years, sports, fitness, and recreation are

becoming more and more popular among secondary school pupils. Physical education

becomes devalued since schoolchildren lose confidence and motivation to attend these

classes.

Locke (1992), Most physical education curricula in secondary schools are ineffective

and cannot ensure the achievement of educational goals. A large number of students say that

attending physical education classes causes strong negative feelings. Teachers report that the

pedagogical conditions do not provide the possibility to achieve the goal of physical

education. This problem cannot be solved by improving or upgrading the existing school

programs: this requires a complete replacement of the existing physical education model in

secondary school.

According to Gavrilov, Komkov & Malinin, (2005), The resulting crisis of physical

education in secondary school is manifested in the loss of learning motivation in

schoolchildren. The curriculum does not encourage youngsters to attend physical education

lessons, both within the training sessions and during extracurricular activities.

According to Tinning & Fitzclarence (1992), Designing the new curriculum should be

based on the special needs of postmodern students. This entails rethinking the nature of

physical education in secondary school.

In Tapinac Senior High School this problem calls for an intensive survey investigation

to know the factors affecting learners’ late submission of their outputs in Health Optimizing

Physical Education of Electronic Products Assembly and Servicing (EPAS) students. This

research was conducted to identify what are the factors affecting learners’ late submission of

their outputs, which would help provide suggestions that would enhance their motivation to

submit their outputs within the time given.

The conceptual framework indicates that the researcher will first get the participants'
agreement and a profile of each participant before sending the questionnaire to the
respondents. The answer of the respondents will determine the factors that grade 12 EPAS
students’ late submission of their outputs in health-optimizing physical education at Tapinac
Senior High School.

Statement of the Problem

The researchers aim to find out and describe the factors affecting learners' poor performance
in health-related fitness tests in health-optimizing physical education.
Specifically, the study intends to answer the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the student-respondents in terms of:

1.1 Name
1.2 Age;
1.3 Sex; and

-What is your perception in Health Optimizing Physical Education subject?

-What problems did you see or observed during H.O.P.E class ??

Hypothesis

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The study will be limited only to the fifteen (15) Electronic Products Assembly and
Servicing (EPAS) students as respondents of the study. The research locale will also be in
Tapinac Senior High School, Olongapo City.

This study limits its coverage to the effectiveness of motivational strategic practices for the
enhancement of output submission of EPAS students and to propose possible solutions
regarding this problem.
This study considers every aspect of students’ personal information which include students’
age, and sex. It will focus to identify what are the factors affecting learners’ late submission
of their outputs.

Chapter II

Research Design
In this study, the researcher will use a descriptive survey design that aims to describe

the present situation about the effectiveness of motivational strategic practices for the

enhancement of output submission of EPAS students

According to McCombes (2019), Descriptive study tries to clearly and systematically

describe a population, condition, or phenomenon. It may explore one or more variables using
a wide range of research techniques.

The researcher has the chance to learn more about the problem by using a descriptive
design. It aids the research team in recognizing the necessity of the study. Exploratory
research—which, according to Blaikie (2000), is regarded as the initial step of research—
might be required if it is not as clear or necessary. The goal of descriptive research is to build
on the foundation laid by exploratory research by adding to, completing, or expanding it.
Descriptive research differs from other types of research in that it seeks to gather as much
data and information as feasible.

Research Instrument
A test questionnaire or checklist will be the main tool used to collect the data. It has
been noted that test questionnaires are a frequently utilized research tool in social sciences
and education.

To ascertain the respondent's demographic profile, which includes name, age, and sex,
researchers created an instrument. Factors affecting the late submission of their outputs are
the primary elements that need attention.

The adviser and panelists will be shown the instrument in order to validate it. Ten (10)
seniors in high school who are not the study's real responders will test it out

Data Gathering Procedure

A letter of consent will be produced to ask for permission in conducting the

study, which will be noted by the Research Adviser. Then, it will be submitted to the

Dean of the College of Education, Arts and Science to oversee data collection. After

the approval of the Dean of CEAS, it will be presented to the Principal of Tapinac

Senior High School for endorsement. The students included in the study will be

informed of the procedures to be conducted. After securing the permission and revising

the checklist according to the feedback of the validators and testers, a trial demo class

will be done to ensure that the procedures and applications to be used during the

implementation is working. Then, the step-by-step procedure of conducting in the

classroom will be done to the specified class. The observers will be present during the

conduct of the intervention, and they will submit the checklist to the researcher. A pre-

test and post-test will be given to the students at the beginning and end of the

intervention as well as a checklist that analyzes their perception of the implementation.

Upon completion of data collection, the data will be organized in a Microsoft

Excel Sheet (if applicable). For further analysis, the statistical treatment to be used in

the study will be applied.

Research Instrument

The main instrument to be used in gathering the data will be a test questionnaire or

checklist. Test questionnaire is observed as commonly used research instrument in Social

Sciences and Education.

The instrument is a researcher made devised by them to determine the respondent’s

demographic profile which includes name, age, and sex. The main focus is to identify the

challenges on the factors identified as body composition, cardiovascular endurance, muscular

endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility.

The instrument will be presented to the adviser and panelists for validation purposes.

It will be tried out to ten (10) senior high school students who are not the actual respondents

of the study.

Innovation/ Intervention/ Strategy

INNOVATION, INTERVENTION, OR STRATEGY

The researcher collects data from students, such as their demographic profile, as an
intervention to improve output submission. It will allow the researcher to design a strategy
for using theirs on how to perform in various elements of activities and motivate them on
how to submit their results. Participants in the research will be put to such an understanding
once a week. The gathered data will be the basis to enhance the effectiveness of motivational
strategic practices for the enhancement of output submission of EPAS students. The weekly
progress will be recorded using Microsoft Excel.
