III. READING
Exercise 1: Read the passage and choose the correct answer for each question.

Robots are like special machines that can do tasks without needing human help all the time.
They are made by people and are programmed to do specific jobs. Some robots are like
helpers at home because they can vacuum the floor or even mow the lawn. Others are used in
factories to help make things like cars or phones faster and more accurately. There are also
robots that help doctors with surgery, making procedures safer and more precise. With the
help of robots, humans can do tasks that are too dangerous or boring for us. However, robots
are not just about work. Some are designed to be fun, like robot toys or even pets that can
respond to commands. But while robots can be really helpful, some people worry that they
might take over jobs that people used to do, which is something we need to think about as we
keep inventing new technology. Overall, robots are amazing inventions that can make our
lives easier as long as we use them wisely.
Question 1: What are robots?
A) Animals
B) Special machines programmed to do tasks
C) Trees
D) Rocks
Question 2: What is one example of a task robots can do at home?

Exercise 2: Read the passage and decide if the sentence is True (T), False (F), or Not Given
(NG).

Imagine a world far, far away, where the sky is a different color, and the ground feels like
nothing you've ever stepped on before. This is what life might be like on another planet.
Scientists have been studying planets beyond our solar system, called exoplanets, to learn
more about what they're like. Some of these planets might have conditions that could support
life, like the right temperature and atmosphere. On these distant worlds, creatures might look
very different from anything we've ever seen. They could have extra eyes or legs, or maybe
even wings to fly. Just like animals on Earth, they would need food, water, and shelter to
survive. But life on another planet could also be very different from what we know. Maybe
instead of breathing air, creatures there breathe something else, like gas or liquid. Exploring
the possibility of life beyond Earth is an exciting journey that scientists are still working on.
Who knows what amazing discoveries we might make about life in the universe!
Question 1: Scientists have discovered life on other planets beyond our solar system.
_______(F)
Question 2: Life on another planet could be very different from what we know. ____________(T)
Question 3: Exoplanets are planets within our solar system. ____________(F)

M: Arrgh! This is so frustrating.
W: Hey, Brad. What’s wrong?
M: I’m developing my latest application, Plan It, but I can’t get it to work right.
W: Oh, cool. I didn’t know that you created applications. What does your app do?
M: It helps people plan their errands.
W: How does it work?
M: Well, after you download the application, you enter the errands you will be doing. Next, the
app will process the information, and tell you the best and quickest way to complete them.
W: Wow, that’s really cool! What are you having problems with?

to the store. It doesn’t make sense!
W: Hmm… Are you sure you entered the right locations? Maybe you entered in the wrong
information.
M: I already checked. I think I need to improve the GPS.
W: I hope you are able to fix it. Let me know when it’s available to download!
M: Thanks! I will.

Listening Comprehension Transcript

Welcome to the first day of school! My name is Ms. Davies. Today, we will be going over some
classroom rules. First, it is very important that you all pay attention during class time. Please
do not bother your classmates, and make sure to keep your hands to yourself at all times. Also,
make sure to bring your books and pencil case to every class. If you happen to lose your
pencil, let me know and I can lend you one. Next, you must do your own work. Do not copy
your friend’s homework. If I find out that you have cheated, you will be punished. If you hear
an alarm, it means that there is an emergency. In this case, you must follow my instructions
and do exactly what I do. We must be very careful otherwise someone will get hurt. If we
follow these rules, we will have a lot of fun during the year. Are you ready for school?
