3 Cut out the Earth, Sun and Moon and connecting pieces.
4 Connect everything together using two paper fasteners.

Make a Sun, Moon and Earth Model
Read the information below, then write some facts about the Sun, Earth and Moon on
the labels to add to your model.

The Sun is a ball of burning gas. It is really big; a

million Earths would fit inside it. The surface of
the Sun is 3.5 million degrees Celsius but, in the
centre, it is 15 million degrees Celsius. The Sun
is 150 million kilometres away from Earth. That
is so far away that light from the Sun takes
8 minutes to get to the Earth.

The Earth is the only place we know of in space

that has life. The Earth takes a year to orbit the
Sun. It travels 11,000 kilometres around its
orbit every hour. At the same time the Earth is
spinning. It takes a day to spin once. This
means the surface of the Earth is turning at
about 1500 kilometres every hour. This is faster
than most aeroplanes.

The Moon is much smaller than the Sun, but it

looks the same size as the Sun because the Sun
is much further away. Sometimes the Moon
goes in front of the Sun. This is called a solar
eclipse. The Moon is the only place humans
have been to in space.
