Preface
This book is the manuscript submitted by the class of BSN 4-3 for their final requirement in the course Nursing Leadership & Management. This book documents the entire process the class underwent in planning, organizing, preparing, and conducting a seminar.
Ultimately, credit can never go to one person alone. The outcome of every undertaking, may it be a complete success or utter failure, does not depend largely on the Adviser nor the President of the class as most would come to believe. It lies in the hands of each member and their willingness to do their part in this endeavor.
The contents of this book mostly reflect the technical aspects of preparation and the details into which the entire process was executed. The full content and details of the actual seminar are not included within these pages.
To the future students who are reading this, I congratulate you for this task is one of the final steps in completing your journey as we have done ours. The best of luck to your undertakings and may the Lord shine His blessings upon you.
The information contained within these pages is designed to help future students of the College of Nursing in preparation for the same task. It is important to keep in mind that the process done by the class is not absolute and perfect. This is not the only method of conducting a seminar successfully. Readers are urged to try their own styles and methods and simply use this manuscript as a guide.
The best source of ideas and inspiration still lies within the members of the class. This endeavor was by no means the concept neither of one person alone nor by a select group of students. Various concepts and ideas were gathered from the entire class and each member had their own unique input and contribution.
This book is also not the best guide a class can have. Nothing will ever replace the guidance bestowed by the Clinical Instructors. Their words are priceless and their wisdom is immaculate. Put them to good use.

In behalf of our class, I would like to extend our deepest and most sincere gratitude to all the Clinical Instructors who have guided us through the years we have spent in the College of Nursing. We have learned immeasurable quantities of priceless knowledge through your unwavering guidance. With regards to this endeavor, we would especially like to thank our adviser and professor in Nursing Leadership & Management, a father to us all, Mr. Redentor Dimaranan. This is a testament to your hard work in driving us and pushing us to our limits until we break them and become better persons. We are eternally grateful.
Personally, I would like to thank my entire class in making all of this possible. All that I have done is guide you towards our common goal. Credit for our progress belongs to each and every one of you. Seeing this through together, hand in hand, united as a class, is reward enough for me.

This subject deals with the application of the concepts, principles, theories and methods of developing nursing leaders and managers in the hospital and community-based settings. It also includes ethico-moral/legal aspects of health care and nursing practice and the nurses' responsibilities for personal and professional growth. (Course description from the College of Nursing) It is believed that people become managers in their own ways at some point in their lives. The subject aims to form student nurses into effective leaders and efficient managers. Seminar Conduction One major requirement of the subject is the conduction of a seminar by the entire class. All aspects of this venture are taken care of by the students while being guided accordingly by their Class Adviser who gives assistance as needed by the class.
There are principles that the class believes in to guide them through their endeavor. These principles will apply to everything done in the daily lives of individuals and not merely in the confines of this project. The following are the guiding principles that govern the class towards accomplishing their goals. Class Mission The class aims to successfully work together as a team and provide an educational seminar dedicated to a life of learning that is inspired by love, compassion, dignity, and respect for human life. The class also seeks to provide sufficient information with relation to the topic of the seminar, open the awareness of student nurses and to develop their clinical decision-making at times when bioethical issues and dilemmas arise within the health care area.
Batch 2012
Class Vision To be the leading entity and most valued group to provide a seminar known for excellence, flexibility and consistency from start to end. The class will be the most admired individuals who compassionately studied and applied one anothers thoughts and ideas and carried out their respective tasks and responsibilities successfully to come up with the best theme and the best seminar in the eyes of their clinical instructors and fellow nursing students. Philosophy Students of BSN IV-3 are guided with the belief that in unity, there is strength wherein more can be accomplished by a team with a common goal, rather than individuals. Success and effectiveness of an organization relies with the shared values and common view, clear vision of success, motivation to succeed together, and respect for the various roles designated to succeed. Objectives Generally, the seminar aims to appraise the leadership and management capabilities of the nursing students. Specifically to: Utilize the concepts and principles of Nursing Leadership and Management learned in the discussion. Develop knowledge and awareness about nursing responsibilities on Bioethical and Legal perspective of end-of-life patient care. Evaluate the leadership and managerial skills of students. For the participants: at the end of the seminar, the participants will be able to: Learn knowledge about bioethical and legal perspectives on end of life patient care. Establish basis of decision and practice on rendering nursing care on end of life patient care as a student nurse.
Class Adviser
For every successful class, there is one very effective Adviser. Class Advisers oversee that the class functions properly. They tend to be an outside entity able to see situations within the class from an unbiased standpoint. Highly effective Class Advisers are the ones who have seen to it to personally know their advisees and have gotten the heart of the students, so to speak.
Dimaranan, Redentor Class Adviser
The class adviser sees to it that things run smoothly. He offers advice on how to do things.
The class of BSN IV-3 is very fortunate to have an adviser who is devoted to his students. He really sees to it that he and his students are on the same page and understand each other.
Class Officers
Every organization must have its own set of officers to see that everything runs as smooth as possible. The same goes for the class. They have selected very capable individuals who are devoted to fulfilling their roles and obligations to the class. The set of class officers of BSN IV-3 are very hard

Here are additional officers of the class who also have very important functions to the class.
These individuals are the ones who take care of matters on a daily basis. They are devoted to running the class as smoothly as possible. There are also class officers who are devoted to the class but are not as prominent as the previous set of officers. Their roles are very important during specific events and situations that do not occur every day. Their presence may not be as strong but their devotion to the class is unquestionable.

These individuals see to it that everything is in order. They were selected because their class trusts them to lead the way and guide the class since the adviser is not always there to see things through at all times.

This class has been together for over two years and they have learned well from each other. They consider themselves a family in which every individual is valued and respected. This is the reason behind their unbreakable unity as a whole. However, there are those whore are no longer with the class. Although they are no longer present, their presence and memory lives on. For their own personal reasons, they have to postpone their journey, but rest assured, they are, and will always remain, in the memory of the entire class.

These are the faces of the individuals who have labored tirelessly, day in and day out, to deliver a seminar that is both memorable and entirely relevant to all the participants. They have given their all to ensure that nothing but the best is presented to the audience. These are the faces of the people who made this seminar a success. If any one of them would be removed from the equation, it things would not have turned out as good as they have.
They are still part of this class and their contributions are still innumerable. They are still part of the success of the entire section.

An Overview of Planning
Batch 2012
An Overview of Planning
Planning is working out a broad outline of the things that need to be accomplished. Methods of execution are planned to give the entire group an idea of the flow of things. Initially, directives come from the overall chairman, in this case, the President of the class.
When changes do occur, they occur slowly and incrementally Preactivism utilizes technology to accelerate changes and is future oriented. It sees the future as preferable to the present and sees it as a possibility for growth. This mode of planning is usually full of errors. Interactivism or Proactivism believes that the future can be created. This leads to the notion that a desirable future for the group can be created in the present and is achievable through the proper utilization of available technology and resources. Planning does not always entail the use of one specific model. It is a dynamic process which has many variables that change though time and circumstance. Different modes may be more effective depending on the situation.
(The class President and Secretary discussing possible plans for the future.)
Proper planning has various reasons and it leads to the orderly course of actions. It leads to success in achieving goals and objectives of the group while giving significant meaning to the work being done by individual members. It also provides effective use of facilities and resources of the group and will help determining costeffective manners to execute the plans. It also provides effective control of things and will help foresee possible events in the future. Objectives are cited and this gives the class a common goal. There are four planning modes which can be utilized to best fit the needs of the class. Reactive Planning occurs after a problem exists or has been identified. Inactivism spends great deals of energy to prevent change and maintain uniformity.
Each topic presented has their own strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. These are pointed out by the presenters and the class shares their

thoughts and ideas regarding what is being discussed. It is during this part of planning wherein the final topic of the seminar has been selected by the class. This is one of the most important aspects of the seminar as almost all other things involved will revolve around this central theme. The interest of the participants will also be greatly affected by the selected topic as this will be the discussion for the duration of the seminar.
death was too negative for a title and was changed to Takip Silim which meant Twilight or Sunset. The title was finalized as Ako: Sa Kanyang Takip Silim. This depicted the role of the nurse in the twilight of a patients life and how it is ended. Possible speakers for the seminar were proposed and they class was able to determine which one they preferred. The next aspects of the seminar to be tackled were the Date and Venue. Although there was little doubt that it will be held at the SM Rolle Hall within the campus, it was still discussed as others might have ideas regarding these aspects. The Date, on the other hand, was one of the most crucial elements of the seminar. No specific date was set but rather a time frame which may coincide with the availability of the desired speakers. Once the basics for these elements have been laid out, it is time to move on to the selection of participants.
It was agreed upon by the class that the topic of the seminar was to be Nursing Predicament on End-of-Life Patient care; Bioethical and Legal Perspectives The title of the seminar was also of great concern. This was to be the one which will grab the interest of the participants and will ultimately contribute to their anticipation level for the seminar itself. Possible titles proposed were: Agaw-Buhay Sa Dulo ng Paglalakbay Gabay sa Aking Paghimlay Ako: Sa Kanyang Pag-Panaw Simula ng Panibagong Yugto The tentative title selected was Ako: Sa Kanyang Pag-Panaw but this was later seen as too morbid. The term Pag-panaw or

It was agreed upon that the Men were to wear coats over their tops to have a more dignified look. The women then chose what to wear. Others proposed to wear slacks while others proposed to wear dresses. Footwear was also an issue whether it was to be limited to closed styles or not.
(The class chooses themes and motifs which would best complement the topic of the seminar.)
The motif selected was Black and White. This created a corporate impression of the class and added to the formal allure of the event. It also added uniformity as shades of black and white were much more easier to match than different shades of pastel colors. The colors also held certain significance to the topic of the seminar which was life and death. White added to the idea of life, purity, justice, and morality. Black usually invokes death but it is also a color of power. It shows that nurses are empowered to help determine the kind of death a patient may endure. Other areas of concern were the attires to be worn by the class. The Men were

A formal attire which consisted of a top and a skirt was chosen over a dress. This was a more corporate formal attire than a dress. A plain white top for men and dresses for women would make it look like an all-female party with all-male waiters.

An Overview of Organizing
Organizing is the establishment of a formal structure of authority through which work subdivisions are arranged and defined. Organizational structures are the first concerns to be dealt with. The class requires a stable structure to follow during the course of preparation to minimize conflicts. The structure starts with the leader and the type of leadership being implemented.
thoughts and concerns regarding how this are done. Communication is a two way process and input from the populace is encouraged. There is still a moderate amount of control being maintained. Laissez-faire is a French term used for a type of leadership which freely lets the ones being governed think and act for themselves. This type of leadership is effective if the ones being governed are mature individuals who are highly capable in their respective tasks. There are various advantages and disadvantages to these different styles of leadership. There is not one style which is universally applicable at all times.
The different types of leadership include: Authoritarian leadership entails submission to authority. Power in this form of leadership is centralized with a great emphasis on Me rather than We. A high level of control is one defining characteristic of this method. Bureaucracy is a form of leadership wherein non-elected officials set and implement the rules. There is a great disparity between those who rule and those being ruled. Decisions are usually done without consulting the general populace. There is also a high level of control in this type of leadership. Democratic leadership emphasizes equality and justice. Program & Documentation Committee This committee was assigned to create the program to be used during the seminar. They are to design and prepare all paraphernalia to be used and to prepare giveaways for the participants and tokens of appreciation for the guests. Additionally, each committee was requested to document themselves individually and this committee is to collate all data. They are also assigned to oversee registration during the seminar and handle most technical aspects during the flow of the program. 5. Ethical, Professional, Assistance, & Leadership Committee This committee is to oversee that all committees are doing their designated tasks and to provide assistance where needed. They are also to help oversee the program through on the day of the seminar. * Budgeting They are to handle all the finances concerned with the project and will coordinate with every committee regarding their expenses and needs.
These committees are free to help each other out as long as they do not neglect their primary task. Their assignments are their priority above all things and must never take second place to other concerns.

An Overview of Staffing
Staffing is essential when determining which person to place in a position. Highly qualified persons for certain positions entail high productivity of labor. It is important that a person is fully aware of the demands of a position he is accepting. Sufficient skill and knowledge is essential to properly fulfill his obligations. Staffing requires the administration to plan and determine where additional personnel is required. They should find manpower capable of filling the demands of the vacancies. It is important to orient the newly appointed staff members to the positions they are being placed to. Personal growth and development must be gained to foster a strong commitment to the job. It is a big advantage if people are placed where they can utilize their skill sets.
Communication Committee This committee requires excellent communication skills and a wide network of contacts. A deep knowledge regarding the topic is also a plus. The members chosen possessed these qualifications. The following were assigned to this committee: Miko Luigi L. Petelo Louis Carlos O. Roderos Shezel Jheane M. Matel Jenny Rose Novero Marisol D. An Overview of Directing
Directing is a process where in a manager instructs, guides and oversees the performance of his subordinates to achieve predetermined goals. Directing is said to be the very heart and essence of the management process. If it is not done properly, all the other aspects of management which came before are rendered useless.
Human Factor Directing function is related to subordinates which involves human relations. The human factor is complex and the behavior is unpredictable, directing them is important. Creative Activity - Directing helps in converting plans into actual actions and performance. When people become inactive, physical resources are rendered useless. Executive Function Direction function is carried out by executives at all levels through the working of an enterprise. A subordinate receives instructions only from his superior. Delegate Function Direction means giving your subordinates your trust and that they are worthy of the responsibilities you delegate to them. However, there is always a bigger responsibility on the shoulders of the manager.
(The Leader of the Program & Documentation Committee Directing Its Members)
Directing has several characteristics: Pervasive Function Directing is required at all levels of organization. The leader provides guidance and inspiration to the members of the group. Continuous Activity It is a continuous process throughout the life of an organization.

(The Communication Committee with the Class President visiting with a potential Speaker.)
It is important that the committee be able to finalize a schedule which would accommodate both the speaker and the venue of the seminar. The Communication Committee worked in coordination with the Program & Documentation Committee to come up with a proposal for the seminar. Proposed Speaker:
The invited speakers in this seminar are welldistinguished in their fields. Dr. Antonio Alejandro Rebosa, medico-legal consultants in various prestigious hospitals including de la Salle University Medical Center and St. Lukes Medical Center will be sharing his expertise in the field of Bioethical and Legal perspectives of end-of-life patient care. On the other hand, Atty. Glenn Luansing, The Legal Expert, from the Royal Pentagon Review Specialists, will also speak about the said topic.
Selection of the Class Mission, Vision, Objectives, and Philosophy (Chapter 1) were done by the communication committee. The president also accompanied them when they visited possible speakers for the seminar. Directing this committee for the president is not very complicated since it is small and most of its tasks are paper work. They are able to govern themselves properly with little interference.

Food & Hospitality Committee This committee involves preparation and distribution of food during the seminar. It is important that the guests and participants are satisfied with what they are served.
Budgeting was also a large aspect in managing this committee since it is one of the largest expenses of the entire project. The seminar fee of Php 100.00 was divided between the expenses for the participants and a total of Php 60.00 was allocated for the food.
Tasks were widely delegated to the members since it involved going to suppliers of the said items. These members were the ones who were tasked to canvass the items and were in charge of purchasing them.

Additionally, ushers and usherettes were chosen among the members of the committee to show people their respective seats. They were instructed to greet the participants with smiles and had cheerful personalities complemented by beautiful looks.
Physical Setup Committee This committee has one of the more time consuming tasks since it involves the preparation of such a large venue. It requires excellent creativity and a good sense of interior decoration and design. It not only pertains to creating a visually stunning atmosphere, it also requires creating an environment that is conducive to learning and is ergonomic and well accommodating.
Overall, this is a very large committee with many functions before, during and after the seminar. Tasks were delegated by their leader accordingly. Any concerns were brought to the attention of the President and they were resolved immediately.
The task of conceptualizing the backdrop of the stage and the layout of the venue rests with the group. What the venue will look like during the day of the seminar and how it will feel for the participants is greatly due to their planning and conceptualizing of things. The very theme and topic of the seminar is reflected in the setup of the venue. It was a challenge to this committee to make sure that it feels welcoming while still reminding the audience that the topic is still mostly about death and loss.

Backdrop Written by the artist of the painting The painting was entitled Aut Vincere, Aut Mori which means either to conquer or die. The backdrop was made of various elements depicting life till death. This concept is unusual yet controversial. The said backdrop contains numerous symbolisms pertaining to worldwide issue euthanasia. A part of this lends comparison to a work by Van Gogh, Starry Night. The elements have been lined horizontally with relative reciprocity. This was done so as to sustain the eye flow across the whole painting. An element selfishly dominates the center of the backdrop. This is the so-called Tree of Life, representing the patient from wellness to disease. Crows approaching the tree signifies the inevitable omen brought about by impending death. Perched on a branch is another crow. Resting still, this signifies the silent, peaceful death specifically the humane practice of intentionally ending life to relieve pain and suffering.
A clock is chained on the Tree of Life. Each and every one of us cannot escape time. The concept came from a passage from the Bible. Ecclesiastes 3: To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born and a time to die The brick road embodies the way to eternity, the way towards death. The shades-of-blue cubism beside the skyline is the abstract representation of the waterfront. It is inspired by the River of Styx in Greek Mythology. This is the river that separates the world of the living from the world of the dead. Buildings beside the waterfront signify the healthcare providers' involvement and the lights symbolize their alertness. On the contrary, is a world full of life. There is a globe beneath the tree. This signifies euthanasia being a worldwide issue. Beside is a river which symbolizes the flow of life, and the swan with the little ones as the family. The plants serve as the representation of the trees youth and the rocks as the obstacles.

The space is maximized to its full potential and is not limited to a simple layout. Directing this committee entails division of labor. Some members were assigned to assist the leader with the creation of the Backdrop while others were assigned to facilitate the setup of the venue. Tasks of the committee were executed by the members accordingly. Program & Documentation Committee This committee is another time consuming one. It has one of the longest scopes of work in terms of timeframe. It is the first to start and the last to finish. It involves organizing and implementing a fluid program to ensure that events go as planned during the seminar. Directing this committee was mostly the task of the Vice President of the Class who was also the head of this committee. They are the most independent committee and required the least help from the president.
Floor Plan The layout of the SM Rolle Hall was designed so that each participating class will have a block to their section. This will minimize confusion and mix-ups of different sections when using only two whole blocks for the seating. This will also allow the speaker to move around the auditorium more freely and will allow more interaction.

Posters are an effective way to disseminate information regarding the event to the public. They are done with great thought and are designed to grab the attention of the participants and give them ideas about the topic of the seminar.
Other paraphernalia used are given to the participants on the day of the seminar itself. These are the ones to be kept by the participants and require more attention to detail as they will be inspected closely by the audience.
Effective ad campaigns grab the attention of the intended audience and whet their curiosity about the topic. They should have a sense of excitement and anticipation when they see the ad materials about the seminar.

All the certificates are personalized to show the sincerity of the class in delivering a seminar which caters to the personal growth of each individual. An Overview of Coordinating
Organizational coordination and control is taking a systematic approach to figuring out if the delegated tasks are done appropriately. Coordination or control must take place in order for organization to exist. It its most basic form, coordination is two entities working in unison to achieve a certain goal. Communication, Effective Communication in particular, is at the heart of this relationship and ensures that all bodies are able to understand each other properly.
This committee takes care of all the communication letters required by the different committees. These letters are usually request letters to borrow materials from the university or other specified sources. The centralization of this task is to ensure that all formal documents are uniform in format and are identical with each other.
It is important that each committee is able to communicate properly within itself and with other committees. Proper channels of communication must be maintained at all times to ensure that there is an effective flow of information.
The committee deals with all communications with the proposed speakers and with various entities which need to be informed of our intention to conduct a seminar. All letters are done under the permission of the class president and are signed by the author of the request, the president of the class, and the class adviser. This ensures that proper chain of command is observed and that control of information is maintained throughout the endeavor.

possible to avoid any problems. Members devoted time and effort to secure the needed items. Members assigned to other tasks such as welcoming guests and participants were able to prepare before the event thanks to proper delegation of tasks. Members designated as ushers and usherettes were given tasks that they could complete before the eve of the seminar. This allowed them to have adequate rest in preparation for the seminar. They should look as presentable as possible when they greet the guests and participants.
Members of the committee are devoted to the completion of their assigned tasks. Those who were assigned to the preparation of the food spent the night prior to the seminar completing the preparation of the dessert.
(Usherettes greeting participants at the entrance)
The head of the committee also made sure that he had members coordinate with other committees in the preparation of the venue. Areas for the food and the guests were taken care of by members of the committee in cooperation with members of the physical setup committee. Assigned members of the committee prepared the planned food items (Seen in Chapter 5, Directing) and arrangements were made final by the committee head.
Those who were assigned to pick up other food items from the suppliers were able to do their part and bring the items to the venue during the preparations for the seminar. They made certain that their assigned tasks are taken care of as early as

From the initial layout of the backdrop, members were already devoted to the completion of their masterpiece under the guidance of their committee head and lead artist.
The completion of the task brings satisfaction to the members and the are proud of their work. Members assigned to the design of the backdrop are able to complete it before the seminar. Under the guidance of their leader, they were able to create a masterpiece appropriate for the topic of the seminar. The other task of the committee is to setup the venue for the seminar. The floor plan which was conceptualized by the group was implemented and arranged one day prior to the seminar.
Each member has their contribution to the completion of the task of this committee. They gave their inputs about the direction of the project.

An Overview of Reporting
Reporting is done to keep all the right persons informed of the happenings in an organization. It is important that all incidents which take place within an organization like a class be reported to the concerned officials especially the president. It is equally important that the managers keep their subordinates informed about the state of things to keep them informed of the situation. This gives the members a peace of mind and that the organization is still headed towards the direction of their goals.
The following are narrative reports written by the heads of the Communication Committee, the Food & Hospitality Committee while the Physical Setup Committee compiled documented photographs as their report and the Program & Documentation Committee chose to integrate both aspects into their report. All reports are verbatim and unchanged. Communication Committee
Narrative Report The communication committees mission is to ensure and facilitate effective communication for all the necessary matters needed for the conduct of the seminar. It is responsible for coordinating and interacting to the offices and its designated personnel whether it is inside or outside the University premises. It is also responsible for the contacting, coordinating, and assuring the availability of the competent resource speaker in accordance to the availability of the proposed venue.
Reporting different aspects of the project brings areas of concern to the president and thus allows the group to deal with them accordingly. Records of all important events should be kept for future reference.
Reporting of Committees
Reports from different committees may be done to make the activities of that committee more transparent to the entire group. There are different methods of reporting and information contained within them may vary.
After receiving the designated tasks for the committee, its members immediately planned for the proposal for the said seminar. The group then came up with the proposed theme, title and resource speakers. These were reported to the class and necessary changes were made according to the preference of the majority. It has been decided that only one resource speaker will be invited to share his insights regarding the agreed topic. Along the preparation, the organizers came to know a person who is also appropriate as another resource speaker, so it has been decided by the class to have two resource speakers. The class, through the efforts of the communication committee, coordinated with the proposed resource speakers and has settled a deal with them. The first proposed date (October 6, 2011) did not fit to the availability of the venue. On the planning stage, the communications committee has worked through sketching the future developments and deciding in advance the things that would be adequate for the event. In planning the members of the committee determined the courses of action needed to achieve our goals. The committee has used the SMARTER (Specific, Measureable, Affordable, Realistic, Time bound, Extending and Rewarding) approach in planning. The plan of the committee was generally coordinated to the plan of the whole class. But to be more specific, the committees plans are to achieve and ensure a good communication and coordination between the class and the external matters which are vital for the success of the event. Synchronization and combination of human, physical and financial resources took place in organizing the committee. All those three resources are important to get results. Therefore, organizational function helps in achievement of results which is important for the functioning of the committee. Then, the members have identified and divided the group into independent functions of each member. DIRECTING "Activating deals with the steps a manager takes to get sub-ordinates and others to carry out plans" - Newman and Warren. The Communication Committee has specific tasks to be performed as delegated by the Class President. The main task for the committee is to provide the best line of communication as possible between the class and the respective people and offices that will help attain the class mission and vision with regards to the conduct of the seminar. It is the responsibility of the committee to look for and coordinate with the possible resource persons for the seminar. It is also entitled to the group to provide all the communication letters needed to ensure that all the approvals, materials and equipment, venue, and the proposed resource persons will be available on the said event. AKO: SA KANYANG TAKIP SILIM Chapter 7 REPORTING The group is mainly accountable in coordinating the class needs to persons in authority. Part of the responsibility is the act of assembling and synchronizing people and activities for the attainment of organizational objectives. The Communication Committee should coordinate with the other committees. The more that all committees are cooperating, the more likely that the seminar will be a success. REPORTING It is a vital role of the communication committee to report the updates among the proposals and the communication letters. Since the committee is the link between the class and the external affairs, it is important to report details to the class, so that changes will not be abrupt and will still be controlled. Relaying information about whats happening may lead into informed decisions which is very significant for the success of the said event. BUDGETING The significance of budgeting in the communication committee varies greatly as changes occur inevitably. Creating a budget for the committee includes the transportation, document printing and the professional fee as the particulars. These particular items are necessary for guaranteeing the success and quality of the seminar.

An Overview of Budgeting
lowest possible rates without compromising quality are essential factors when faced with the demands of budgeting.
Budgeting in a business sense is the planned allocation of all available funds and resources to each department in an organization. Budgeting allows managers to control overspending in less productive areas and allocate more funds in areas which yield better results. Effective budgeting requires both flexibility and inflexibility. Certain expenses have to be fixed in order to minimize exploitation and control overspending. Some expenses change depending on circumstances which cannot be controlled by the organization and thus flexibility should be applied during these circumstances.
There are certain expenses such as professional fees of speakers which are not as flexible as one might expect. Services offered such as rentals of equipment may also be inflexible at times.
An example of a flexible expense is the materials used. The prices of materials may vary depending on the supplier. Finding the

Budgeting is not limited to the allocation of financial resources. Time management is another aspect of budgeting which requires great attention. The proper allocation of man hours to certain tasks will prove to be as important as budgeting your finances. Time is something we cannot get back, so the proper and effective use of it is as invaluable as the proper allocation of funds. Another resource which requires careful budgeting and allocation is the human resource of a group.
proper allocation of the financial budget of the class. Budgeting is essential to the entire process of things since can be found incorporated in every aspect of the managerial process. It is present in Planning all the way to Reporting. This aspect cannot be neglected if a successful outcome is desired.
Some human resources are priceless, such as the technical assistance provided by the technical guru of the Rolle Hall, Kuya Kulot.
(Proper allocation of human resources are important)
The work force of a group should be utilized as efficiently as possible. Individuals have to be placed in positions where they can best utilize their skills and be as productive as possible.

Evaluation by Committee
Each committee has their own evaluation. Some chose to evaluate as a group while others chose to evaluate individually. Each committee was free to do as they saw appropriate. Communication Committee From the head of the committee

It is also responsible for the contacting, coordinating, and assuring the availability of the competent resource speaker in accordance to the availability of the proposed venue. These responsibilities were carried out by its members wholeheartedly and successfully although the committee has faced some inevitable challenges in the process. Those hard encounters were solved by its members through effectively following the chain communication. And through the process, with all those challenges, a lot of changes do occur. But despite the conflicts among the schedules and availability of the important matters for the event, there is still a good control within the situation.

Enjoying the profound fulfillment we gained through the process, the committee was inspired to accomplish their tasks unselfishly. The committee understands that through pursuing excellence, success will chase us. And its true, we reached the pinnacle of success and we are proud of what we achieved. we appointed Mark Anthony Peralta as our leader. For me he had good and bad side as a leader. His good side was he was a democratic leader wherein, he entertained and accepted all the suggestions and opinion of his group members. He didnt ignore anything we shares in regards with this committee. He has an open mind in terms of our suggestions. He is also a God fearing person. He always seeks for Gods guidance in everything we do. He divided the task equally for each member. The bad side he had was when he was not able to attend the meeting on time. Denalyn Ann R. Tormo
With regards to the evaluation of Mark Anthony Peralta which is our leader in Food committee. Behalf of my co-members, I could say, he is a responsible though he has some flaws and I know each of us does also. Sometimes, he forgets to inform us about his some plans, sometimes he doesnt find ways to stay or to keep himself available for us. Its kind of hard but then, because these conflicts were solved by working this out all together with more patience and understanding between the leader and his members, I rated Mark Anthony as a good leader. Agnes Ocampo
To our leader, Mark Anthony Peralta, he did his job well. I can say that he is a very good leader because he can lead as along our day to do our jobs he had delegated to us. Whenever we have any problems regarding the food he is always listening to it and is very eager to help us solve those problems. Mark Anthony Peralta, as a leader, can be a successful leader because without him the seminar will not be possible. Sumaya, Ana Faye T.

nervousness. During our meetings for the preparation for the seminar, he asked each one of us, what are our suggestions and he is concern about the prices of each dishes. He wanted to be sure about the kind of food and the amount of time to be consumed in the preparation and delivery. Weve encountered some problems which is inevitable like we have to change the caterer because it is a quite far from our school, the quantity of the bottled water is not enough and lastly, the afternoon session ended very early and we have to serve the food a bit earlier than the expected time but the food was not in the venue yet. We trusted Pepe, though he also have a negative side aside of being lax, he wasnt able to delegate his member appropriately during the seminar, and as a result, there was sort of little problem in delivering food during the morning session, but through that situation, weve learned that as members of the committee we have to do our best though we dont have any commands from our head. We trusted Pepe, because we know that he can be responsible and he partially prove that to us, I believe he did achieved some of our expectations. He knows how to solve and handle problems with a big smile. For me, Pepe have a score of 7/10, not bad, right? Cielo Saquilayan
Evaluation The food committee is the largest committee of the seminar and I believe that we have met our goal to provide good food to the crowd. The leadership of Pepe is not the perfect one but with the help of the entire committee, we have served our purposes in the right manner. The decision making in the group is made in a very democratic way, which I believe is one strong points of our leader. He was able to initiate good meetings where in everyone in the committee can share his thoughts, ideas and opinions with high regard. Everyone in the group is acknowledged to suggest and the majority of the crowd that goes to a certain decision wins. He is good in communicating with the group and sharing it to the class. He also distributed task well and he managed to do things even if he had a lot of other tasks done such as being an emcee in the afternoon session. However, there are also flaws in his leadership. Since the committee is a large crowd, a leader must always know who his members are. There are instances where in he would appear surprised to see someone in the meeting and he will wonder if that certain person is a part of the committee when in every meeting, that particular person is always present. Another flaw will be the lack of initiative to act things out in advance. He wants things to be done just in the nick of time and he was not able to oversee what materials can be possibly needed on the day of the seminar. We end up buying other needed things on the very day of the seminar, which is a hassle on our part and his part as well. But what I admired is his ability to do things in a pressured manner. At some point, information dissemination in the group is not done in a good manner, for instance when a meeting is conducted, not everyone in the group is given such information. A leader must not only be good in words but in doing things in the proper manner, in the right time. All in all, he still did his responsibility as a leader and embraced it.
Evaluation If I am to evaluate our leader in our committee, I would give 6 out of 10, 10 as the highest and 1 as the lowest. Even though he directed us what to do HE IS NOT THAT RESPONSIBLE to be a leader for us. Peano, Ella Mariz
Leader: Mark Anthony Peralta He delegates well his subordinates by delegating each and everyone in their responsibilities. He also becomes an effective leader and I know that he do his best to have a good seminar.

Evaluation for the Head of Committee I was a member of the food committee and our head/leader is Mark Anthony Peralta. For me, I would rate him 6 out of 10. Though he facilitated well in our group meetings, HE WAS SOMEWHAT LACKING IN ACTIONS. He delegated the tasks to us BUT LITTLE EFFORTS were seen from him during the preparations. Still, we were successful. Pe, Kathleen Anne S.
we had realized that we should have initiative and responsible without getting any commands from our head. Above all, he was able to handle difficult situations we had encountered. He did his best and gave his efforts for the betterment of our committee. For me, Pepe have a score of 8/10. Mariel Merlan
Food Committee Our seminar entitled Ako sa Kanyang Takipsilim: A Nursing Predicament on End-ofLife Patient Care; Bioethical and Legal Pespectives has been successful and it is because of the cooperation of the whole class just to make our seminar to be perfect but we all know that there are still problems and flaws we had encountered which is inevitable. Each committee who has different duties and responsibilities did a great job to their respective assigned tasks. They accomplished all the assignments assigned to them in full efforts. Each committee has an assign head wherein he/ she will be responsible for dividing the work and allocating to his/her members, thus it helps in reducing his/her workload. In our committee (food committee) our head was Mark Anthony F. Peralta a.k.a Pepe . He was a responsible leader and very open in a sense that he does not only thinks on his own opinion and perspectives, he also consider the opinion of his other members for the betterment of our committee. He assures that every member has an equal distribution of tasks and be responsible in each assignment he had assigned. During our meetings, he wants that each member will give his/her opinions and suggestions regarding for the preparation of foods. But the negative side about Pepe was during the seminar he wasnt able to delegate his members appropriately which results to not properly distribution of foods during the morning session but we all know that though our head was not able to delegate us regarding in distributing the foods, BS Nursing Level IV Section 3
Our leader used the role of democratic leadership for he gave us the chances to vote for the things that we know are right. Luckily, he successfully played that role. He applied the principle of nursing leadership and management in handling his subordinates. There are many advantages and disadvantages of having Mr. Peralta as our leader. Here are some advantages. First, he was very funny and seemed like everything would be going fine and okay because it he was pretty sure that nothing will obstruct or hinder our plans. That made me confident that we would succeed in meeting our group goals and objects. Secondly, he delegated the tasks to his subordinates and made sure that everyone had his own assignment. Another thing is that he sets meetings frequently for our plans and documentation. However, he is not a perfect leader. He also has some disadvantages. One of these is that he always loses his patience and does not believe in himself. There are times that he escapes responsibility and leaves this responsibility to his subordinates for no apparent reason. He just talks but not acts to what we expect of him. A leader should not just delegate. He must have the characteristics that a leader should possess for his subordinates to follow him. Mr. Peralta often leaves his subordinates to the air. He always says that he is tired and he has done the biggest thing in the organization. There are times that he ignores the feelings of his followers. A good leader must be a good follower and must respect the decisions of his subordinates. During the seminar proper, he loses patience. At first, he must have anticipated the problems that could obstruct or ways, he failed that.

AKO: SA KANYANG TAKIP SILIM Chapter 10 EVALUATION But at the end of the event, he was still able to maintained the energy and fun and handled the problems by doing his best I give Pepe a score of 9/10 Alyssa Ginnel Romilla Rosarda
Evaluation for the Group Leader Mr. Mark Anthony Peralta Pepe as we call him, is a very jolly and energetic person. He used to make us laugh and I can say that he is a big part not only by our committee but by our section as a whole. Like I have said before, we are not perfect. Pepe as a leader sometimes forget his task. He just pointing out what are the things that we must do as his member then he as a leader dont have a work to do. Sometimes he left us while working. He used to do his own things that are not related to our committee while we are all getting busy just to be prepared in our very own seminar. Theres no perfect individual. I myself am not a perfect one. I am not saying that Pepe is not a good leader, it is just my own opinion and it is what I have noticed. But during the seminar, Pepe really did a good job in designating our task. He always sees to it that all the attendees are properly assisted and they have foods. MARK FHOLINE C. SERRANO
Evaluation for the Head of the Food Committee Who was the head of the Food Committee? He is none other than, Mr. Mark Anthony Peralta, Sir Reds favorite student to tease. I can say that he was a good leader because he had given us assigned tasks for us to be organized. Though, he was lacking that concept of being prompt and organized in his own ways. He was sometimes making reasons just to protect his self from others criticisms about him. If I would rate him on the scale of 1 to 10 were 10 was excellent and 1 was bad, I would give him 7. 7 means that he was good but he sometimes forget the big responsibility that was assigned to him. KAHLIA BIANCA A. NAZARETA
Having Mark Anthony Peralta as our leader in our committee was very fun, he was able to direct and give instructions to his subordinates properly. He is a very responsible leader and has good attitude like being a very open minded leader and willing to listen and accept new things and ideas for the better of the seminar. He was also able to delegate works appropriately and equally to each and everyone and always makes sure that all of us has a job to do. Pepe always calls everyone's attention and conduct a meeting about the updates about our works. The only thing that Pepe wasn't able to give attention was on the day of the seminar, Pepe wasn't able to delegate his subordinates properly that's why there's a very little disorganized happened when giving foods to the participant for the morning break. Though I am also a member of food committee, i was not able to help and distribute foods because I was assigned by our president to take the video of the whole seminar. 56 Nursing Leadership & Management |
EVALUATION FOR PERALTA: Peralta (Pepe) as our leader of food committee, he is a very responsible and a liable leader. He sets meeting to keep us informed and sees to it that each member is doing their assigned tasks and everything is organized. He is very careful in budgeting so we will not exceed the allotted budget and did not forget to ask each members opinion. During the seminar, he did not hesitate to volunteer himself as the class runner to buy for what we need, even if its other committees need. Pepe performed his role well as our leader. I will rate him 5 (5 as the highest and 1 as the lowest). I know he deserves it. Rose Anne Layno Poblete
Evaluation: I may say that our leader in the Food Committee was able to meet our expectations. He divided our group into subgroups and gave our tasks we must work well with. He relies all the updates on BS Nursing Level IV Section 3

Evaluation to our group leader Anthony Peralta I can say that our leader was able to do his job properly because we were able to serve and choose the appropriate foods for the seminar. He first asked our president about our budget then we started planning for the foods. He was able to divide us in our respective tasks and was able to come up with a perfect plan. He always makes sure that all of us are doing our tasks and participated in every meeting. He always instructed and asked us about the improvement regarding our assigned foods. He is very responsible and hardworking. I can say that we chose the proper leader for our committee and I was very happy to be part of that committee. Mark Anthony Peralta Evaluation Leader, a duty that have big responsibility to carry out. Being a leader in our committee, there are situations that you could not expect to happen, many criticism that you encounter. To evaluate what my member s did on prior, during and after the seminar is good but not best. Because as a human my members also have weaknesses, mistakes and carrying problem that affects to their performance. But some of my members do a lot in our committee. To see it as a whole they do their job to what Im expecting.

AKO: SA KANYANG TAKIP SILIM Chapter 10 EVALUATION skills. As the head of my committee, I could honestly say that my members were able to take charge of their responsibilities and fulfill their obligations to the class to the best of their capabilities. They were able to complete assignments accordingly and on time and did not complain regarding their assignments. Communication between the committee was very open and we were able to share our views regarding various aspects of our seminar under our jurisdiction. We were able to complete our job description and individually the members were eager to do their tasks themselves and did their best to personally see them through. Over all, I believe that we were able to act as one cohesive unit towards a common goal. There were no disagreements and differences in personal views and opinions were seen as constructive to improve the quality of our seminar.
Each committee had their own evaluation of themselves. These statements would give a better picture of the relationship of the members with each other. They also show the forms of communication within the committees.
