1A) Introduce Your Self

ticket, last ship experience and location / trade sail. And
other. For example : I am Thery Alamanza , Have holding
Engineer COC Class 2 , my last experience as 2nd
Engineer on tanker ship of Ocean marine company for
world wide area.
1B) Duties and Responsibilties
CHIEF ENGINEER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Chief engineer should ensure that all the ship’s
machinery and equipment are working in an efficient
manner in order to support safe navigation of the ship.
2.Frequent inspections of equipment dealing with ship
and personal safety must be carried out by him at regular
intervals of time3.All items used for pollution prevention
should be frequently checked and tried out for proper
operating condition
4.Chief engineer should lay down a set of standing orders
for each crew member under his command
5.The standing orders should be given in accordance with
the routine maintenance schedule as laid down by the
Planned Maintenance System (PMS), which is prescribed
by the manufactures
6.He should see that details of every operation and
activity should be properly maintained in log and record
books, which state the compliance of the system.
7.Life-saving and fire preventing equipment should be
checked a regular basis for their operating condition.
(Operating mechanism and linkages should be inspected
and lubricated frequently)
8.In order to minimize sources of fire, chief engineer must
ensure that proper operation and maintenance of fuel
and lubricating oil and purifying equipment is carried out
to minimize leakage. In case there are leakages, they
should be rectified at the earliest.
9.He should also make sure that the amount of waste oil
that is collected should be as less as possible. The
collected oil should be burnt in an incinerator or given to
shore-based collecting facilities.
10.Chief engineer should ensure that the maintenance of
incinerator is carried out as per the rules and regulations
laid down by the management.
11.It is imperative of him to check that from the effluent
mixture, only clean water is pumped out of the ship only
through an oily water separator. (According to few
company rules, only the chief engineer should handle
the Oily water separator)
12.In order to make sure the maintenance and repair
procedures are carried out properly, necessary machine
spare should be made available in the ships store by filing
a proper requisition at the right time.
13.Chief engineer must have the knowledge of equipment
such as fixed fire fighting installation, the operation of
quick closing valve etc. in order to deal with extreme
emergency situations.
14.Chief engineer also makes sure that his crew attends
all shipboard emergency drills ,safety meetings,
emergency respond team, emergency procedure

SECOND ENGINEER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The Second engineer is responsible for keeping an
engine room watch at sea and in port if so required
2. The Second engineer is responsible for the safe and
efficient operation of the engine room department in
accordance with the directives and policy of the
Company and the requirements of the Chief Engineer.
He/she is to control, train, and evaluate the engine
crew's performance and behaviour and make regular
reports to the Chief Engineer
3. The Second engineer is responsible for all maintenance
work associated with the engine room department and
repairs of the main engine, auxiliary engines, and other
machinery and equipment except certain items
specifically assigned to the Third Engineer by the Chief
Engineer. He/she is to keep records of running hours for
major machinery for scheduled maintenance purposes.
He/she is to properly supervise all personnel engaged in
such work
4. The Second engineer is responsible for ensuring that
work related to the engine room department is
performed in a safe and seaman like manner
5. The Second engineer is responsible for the total
maintenance and performance of the main engine
6. The Second engineer is responsible for the control and
management of consumable items, such as fuel,
lubricating oils, fresh water, stores, and spare gear.
He/she is to provide the Chief Engineer with quantities of
stocks consumed and remaining on board on a regular
basis as required by the Company
7. In case of emergency, for the handling or execution of
urgent repairs in accordance with the Chief Engineer's
instructions. This includes the start-up and operation of
the life boat engines during boat drills
8. The Second engineer is responsible for the preparation
of repair lists for major repairs or drydocking. This list
shall include any items of work to be done by ship’s
personnel during that period.
9. The Second engineer, upon joining a vessel shall report
to the Chief Engineer. Handover from one Second
engineer to the other is carried out as per ( Engineer’s
Handover Procedure ), which is located in the Quality
Procedures Manual.
10. The Second engineer is to maintain and test:
a) Fixed Fire Fighting Equipment.
b) Remote Fuel Isolation Equipment.
c) Emergency Stops.
d) Quick Closing Devices.
11. The Second engineer is responsible for the
maintenance and testing of all fire fighting appliances in
the engine room and all machinery spaces
12. All crew members aboard the vessel are responsible
for the identification of hazards. Where possible such
hazards should be rectified immediately and in all cases
recorded in the hazard log. All incidents and near misses
shall be recorded in the hazard log
13. The incumbent shall at all times comply with
requirement for minimum Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE)
14. All crew members shall actively participate in Health
and Safety Management and Environmental Protection
programs
15. All crew shall participate in the vessel’s emergency
gear testing rounds as required by the Master

THIRD ENGINEER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


1. Acts as an understudy of the Second Engineer;
2. Performs sea and port watchkeeping;
3. Maintains the Boiler and performs Cooler Water Test;
4. Monitors all pump lines, provision reefer, emergency
pump lines and ship’s spare and stores;
5. Reports to the upkeep of the steam boiler and
associated auxiliaries, refrigerating equipment and other
machinery assigned by the Chief Engineer. He shall
report to the Chief Engineer any problem observed in the
handling of the said equipment
6. Manages fuel consumption
7. Custodian of Engine Log Book and other engineering
records
8. Performs such other functions as may be assigned by
the Second Engineer
FOURTH ENGINEER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintain a UMS or an engine room watch as per the
requirement set by the Chief Engineer.
2. Maintain and repair designated machinery on-board,
not limited to Purifiers, compressors, Incinerator Etc
and also ensure defects are reported in a timely
manner.
3. Maintain an accurate record of Maintenance carried
out in the PMS and maintain the stock levels of the
designated machinery.
4. Oversee and manage the engine room ratings during
their Watch.
5. To undertake Bunkering Operations and assist in
taking stores.
6. To account for monthly Inventory as set by the Chief
Engineer.
7. Act as a member of the Shipboard Emergency
Response and Fire Fighting Team in accordance with
the muster lists and shipboard contingency plans.
8. Maintain and operate ships Life Saving and Fire
Fighting Appliances.
9. To carry out ISPS duties in accordance with the
vessel’s Ship Security Plan.

5) PMS (Plan Maintenance System) is a paper/ software
base system which allow the ship’s owner and /or
operator of the vessel maintenance in intervals according
to manufactures and class/ classification society
requirement.
The maintenance, primarily supervised by on board
personnel, is then credited towards inspection required
by periodic surveys.
The planning and scheduling of maintenance as well as
its document must be made according to a system that is
approved by classification society.
