Impact of Student Schedules on Grades
Impact of Student Schedules on Grades
Introduction
People nowadays are having a hard time accomplishing tasks in the most efficient and
organized way. A day only has 24 hours, and for some people, it’s not enough to complete their
tasks. For a standard Filipino, 8 hours of their day are allotted for work, sometimes still having
overtime even after going back home, they still have activities to do as aligned to their personal
life. However, not all Filipinos are in this situation, some people have part-time jobs that needed
to be attended to after a long day at work. After they finish all of their tasks, it is the only time
that they got to have a rest. Organizing your day would be a big help to maintain a good flow of
your activities and also balance your life. Having a schedule is the most effective way to track
A schedule is a plan that outlines the order and timing of events, tasks, or activities. It
serves as a structured arrangement of time slots or periods during which specific actions or
events are expected to occur. Schedules are commonly used in various contexts, such as work,
education, sports, and personal life, to effectively allocate time and coordinate activities.
Schedules help people to have a hold on their tasks and also to be productive in everyday
life. Schedules are an essential tool for managing time and being organized, it also helps people
to prioritize their tasks, set deadlines and ensure that they make the most efficient use of their
time. With the increasing demand for time and attention in today’s fast-paced world, having a
Managing time is one of the most difficult things that can be considered by many
students in their academic life. Nowadays, students have different ways of managing their time
in both their personal and academic life. Having priorities and goals varies for the student who
finds time management important. While there are students who are more productive in
accomplishing tasks without proper organization. Students don’t find the balance between their
work resulting in packed-up tasks, and also some students do manage their time that’s why they
Some factors affect the schedule of a person, especially students in this study. These
factors have a big impact on their everyday life that could be positive or negative.
One of the factors that affect the schedule of a student is their leisure. There are times that
students have a heavy schedule in their studies, that sometimes even occupies their leisure time.
Their time for themselves to have some rest and also do other things are affected. Most of their
time is consumed in their studies that resulting in a lesser time for their leisure. But there are also
situations that students give more attention to their leisure time which leads to overuse. They
exceed more time having their free time and forgot their other responsibilities as a student. There
is an unbalance organization of priorities that causes problems in their schedules and also affects
Another thing is the extracurricular activities that students participated in every school-
based or even outside school premisses competitions like sports, journalism, leadership, and
other academic contest. All of these require a lot of time to have training and practice and
students needed to be excused in class. It’s not easy to catch up on lessons and accomplish tasks,
students who are committed to this should know the proper time management so that they could
maintain their studies as well as excel in their talents or skills. Having a good balance of time in
a crashed schedule would result in stress. For students, lack of time management may become
the cause of procrastination and cramming which both give stress to students. These could affect
the classroom behavior of a student and can affect his or her academic performance as well as
their social life and other students. Sometimes it leads to more severe conditions like mental
issues, that need attention. So it is important to assess it as soon as possible, starting to lessen the
All of these may affect the academic performance of the students. The academic
performance of a student can come from many aspects like written activities, performance tasks,
oral recitations, final examinations, and other extracurricular activities. To have a better
academic performance students need to excel in the following aspects. With so many activities
and tasks to be completed within the same time deadline, it is hard to accomplish all of this on
time.
According to a blog from Leverage Edu (2023) to balance education with other everyday
necessities, students must prioritize time management. Their health is affected by how they
manage their time, and it also gives them the energy to accomplish more. There are a few
justifications for why time management or having schedules ought to be a top priority for all
students.
their work organized, also it has a positive effect on their health, more time for extra-curricular
activities, helps stress reduction, and no last-minute cramming. All of this is the positive effects
accomplishing their tasks on time and prioritizing their activities. In different aspects of the life
of every Filipino, how different they are, could help them to prioritize tasks and give their full
attention to a more important thing. It is not only for workers, but the schedule has a big impact

Conceptual Framework
IV DV
The conceptual framework shows the relationship between the student’s schedule and the
academic performance of selected grade 10 students in Canubing National High School. Three
factors affect the schedule of students; (1) Leisure, (2) Extracurricular Activities, and (3)
Classroom Behaviour.
This study aims to answer the following questions that would guide the whole study:
1. What are the effects of student schedules on the academic performance of selected Grade
Leisure
Extracurricular Activities
Classroom Behavior
This study aims to know the relationship between the student’s schedule and the
academic performance of selected Grade 10 learners in Canubing National High School and how
The delimitation of this study will focus on a sample of five respondents from six
sections of Grade 10 learners in Canubing National High School. To collect data, questionnaires,
and interviews will be conducted. Students who struggle with their schedules will be the target of
students, teachers, parents, readers, and also the future researchers in the following ways:
Students. This study is beneficial to students in having organized schedules that can help them to
perform their tasks correctly and to be productive. Also, in managing their time between their
personal and academic life. Through this, students can fulfill their activities by having an
organized schedule. Students who have an organized schedule can accomplish their activities
Teachers. This study can help teachers to determine the skills of students in terms of managing
their time. Additionally, this can help them to assess their student academic performance.
Teachers can also benefit from this in a way that they can also finish their work or
responsibilities as a teacher.
Parents. With this study, parents can know how their children perform in school and how they
balance their time from school and their personal life. Parents will be able to know their
children’s behavior and how they deal with it. This, they can help them assess their activities and
Readers. The study is significant to its reader because it will give them an overview of how a
student’s schedule affects the academic performance of a student. And also, it will give them
information on how different factors affect the schedule not only for students but also for a
person. The importance of time management can also be tackled in this study which would help
researchers can use this to have an idea and as a basis for their further investigations. It provides
them with an overview and some important factors in making their study.
Definition of Terms
Student’s Schedule. It is a plan that helps to organize your tasks, activities, set deadlines, and
put-up goals. Students used schedules to prioritize their long-term or even short-term goals
can be affected by many factors thru the performance excels by the students such as in their
Time Management. It is a way of making the time useful and efficient. It can help to maintain an
organized schedule and to maintain productivity in all aspects. This is useful for students,
especially for those who have a hectic schedule and heavy tasks ahead.
Leisure. It is also called free time. In this, other things that need to be attended can be completed.
All tasks aligned with personal life could be done in this time. Also, this could serve as a rest
Extracurricular Activities. These are the activities that are still connected with the school but not
with the academics of a student. It focuses on building and strengthening the skills and passion
with their classmates, peers, and teachers. Sometimes it has something to do with their emotions
and personalities toward something about their selves in doing activities inside the class.
Chapter II
According to Varnagas (2022), a schedule is a plan that lists your activities to assist you
in prioritizing your time and achieving your objectives. To elaborate, many people who can't
keep up with everything they need to do live a more stressful existence yet rarely dare to change.
What people know is that good planning is required to balance all of life's demands. It is entirely
possible to manage everything with appropriate planning. Scheduling is performed to balance the
load on the system, maintain the equal allocation of resources, and provide some prioritization
researchers discovered that regular routines make you more likely to use your time effectively.
"Often, not having a routine simply means that you run out of time, leaving things undone and
not making the most of your time." Rituals help you stay productive even when you're not
feeling particularly inspired. Your intellect and willpower are depleted when you must constantly
change your mind about when to begin, what to do, or how long you will work. Make a plan and
rhythm and habit, which can be soothing to students as well as educators. As a student, having a
plan is essential because it allows you to maximize and prioritize the things that are urgent or
vital. According to a study published in the Journal of Educational Psychology, students who
adhere to a timetable are more likely to manage their time well, complete their work on time, and
achieve higher grades. According to one study, students who employed a timetable had a GPA of
3.28, whereas those who did not have a GPA of 2.84 (Agrawal, 2020).
provides a framework for students while also ensuring teachers' availability. Scheduling requires
consideration at the district and school levels. Student enrolment, course requests, staffing, and
curriculum changes all have an impact on schools' academic goals (Orren and Kelchner, 2022).
One of the factors that affects the schedule of a person is his or her Leisure, as stated by
Helfer (2022), leisure activities are activities that people engage in when they have free time.
Outside of obligatory time, activities are carried out during free time. These are activities done
for enjoyment, leisure, or other satisfactions, usually after work and other responsibilities have
been completed. It is mostly what people do in their spare time after finishing their regular jobs
and duties. However, not all non-work time is leisure time. Definitions of leisure encompass
choice, relaxation, pleasure, and independence from obligation (Jose and Hansen, 2010).
In addition, based the study titled The Impact of Leisure Time Activities on the
Academic Performance among College Students, with 168 students from different universities in
India, results that there are components of leisure activities, specifically social networking and
Barge (2020), the word "extracurricular" can be split down into its roots: "extra" means "outside"
and "curricular" refers to all of the work you perform in the classroom. Extracurricular activities
are simply activities that you participate in outside of class. Almost anything in which you are
Extracurricular activities can provide numerous advantages to students. They can assist
students in learning new skills, making new friends, and exploring new interests. These exercises
can also help students gain confidence and develop leadership skills. Extracurricular activities
might also benefit students academically. According to studies, children who participate in
extracurricular activities have higher grade point averages and test scores than those who do not
(Llego, 2022).
Extracurricular activities are important in this study because based on Gurbanova et. al
(2020) on public schools in Azerbaijan, analyzing the effects of extracurricular activities on the
academic performance of students shows that some extracurricular activities have a positive
The schedule of a student has something to do with their behavior in everyday life, and as
a student, most of it could be noticed inside the classroom. Classroom behavior refers to
stimulus-driven responses that happen specifically in the classroom, or how students act in the
classroom in response to what is going on or present around them (Karani and Achuthan, 2019).
Furthermore, according to Dancel et. al (2019), Student behavior also has a significant
impact on academic attainment because it can impair his or her ability to learn as well as the
learning environment for other pupils. Numerous behavioral characteristics can have an impact
All of these factors affect nothing but the academic performance of a student, stated by
Caballero et al. (2007), academic performance involves meeting goals, achievements, and
objectives set in the program or course that a student attends. These are expressed through grades
which are the result of an assessment that involves passing or not certain tests, subjects, or
courses. On their part, Torres and Rodríguez (2006 quoted by Willcox, 2011) define academic
performance as the level of knowledge shown in an area or subject compared to the norm, and it
motivation, skills, passions, study habits, self-esteem, or relationship between teachers and
students. A diverging performance arises when there is a gap between academic performance and
the student's expected performance. Unsatisfactory academic performance falls below standards.
According to Narad and Abdullah (2016), academic performance is the knowledge that you
have learned that is measured by a teacher through marks and/or educational goals set by
students and teachers to be achieved within a particular period. They further stated that these
Students' personality qualities, personal goals, and motivation, as well as their teacher’s assistanc
e and level of experience, all have a substantial impact on their academic performance (Ulate and
Carballo, 2011). It means that if you are motivated to do the activities and have a goal to finish
the task on a particular subject then you can have a good academic performance.
As stated by Maganga (2016), Nghambi (2014), and Osei Mensah (2012), the availability
of teaching and learning materials, teacher competency, and the environment in which a school is
located all have an impact on the academic performance of students. The learning materials that
are complete and the school environment is good then it can affect the academic performance of
each student.
Dealing with academic performance, it has possible positive and negative outcome,
according to the study of Yeshaneh and Mulu (2022), academically good students have greater
work opportunities, higher income, more self-esteem and self-confidence, lower levels of anxiety
All of this is all about time management, planning or managing one's time between
various tasks to enhance effectiveness is known as time management. People with effective time
management techniques may accomplish more in less time. Since it directly combats
procrastination, time management is crucial. Procrastination and poor time management might
contribute to someone's subpar completion of a task. Increasing productivity, reducing stress and
anxiety, and achieving goals are all advantages of effective time management (Skidmore, 2022).
Time management is important for everyone, because they are focused and aren't wasting
time on distractions (like social media, for example), students who are good at managing their
time can accomplish more in less time, feel less stressed as they cross things off their to-do list,
and experience a sense of accomplishment when they reach their goals. For instance, they might
set a goal to finish an assignment by Friday so they can hang out with friends on the weekend.
Additionally, by managing their time effectively, students can finish their assignments on
time, remain interested in their lessons, and have more free time to indulge in interests of their
own, such as sports, hobbies, youth groups, and socializing with friends and family. Students
who manage their time effectively can maximize their talents and experience the delight of
success. It is also a skill that employers value the most (Auld, 2019).
busy schedule, time management can be quite helpful. To manage their everyday lives and turn
in their academic assignments on time, it makes sure that students are well-prepared, organized,
and focused. Although it can increase achievement, this is a talent that students must acquire and

Summary
The researcher gathered information to know that if Student’s Schedule really affects the
Academic Performance of selected Grade 10 learners. There are factors that affects the academic
performance like leisure, extracurricular activities, and classroom behavior. The researcher used a self-
made questionnaire to evaluate if the following factors can affect the academic performance of selected
Grade 10 learners. When the researcher collected the scores, it followed the decision to find the results
using Pearson’s r to identify if it is lower or higher than the critical value and if the factors are accepted or
rejected. Also, to know if there is a significant or insignificant relationship between Student Schedules
