Yarn weight doesn't really matter - the size of your project will simply turn ‘out bigger or smaller! | used Patons Smoothie DK Yam (this is quite a thick DK yarn so itis equivalent to aran or light worsted weight in other brands) and my finished doll measures approx 40cm tal For the mother doll you will need the following colours: Your choice of skin tone & hair colour. The intemal pocket which holds the baby can either be made in red or in your choice of skin tone. Your choice of colours for her dress, shoes & headband For the baby you will need the following colours: Your choice of skin tone Red for the placenta. White or cream for the umbilical cord. Your choice of colour for the baby blanket © Asuitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen =| used a 4mm hook. © Toystuffing, ‘© Clear plastic press studs / snap fasteners (this is optional but allows the baby to breast feed. © Black finer yarn or embroidery thread for adding the mother's eyelashes & the baby’s eyes, and a suitable colour for adding the smile (& nipples if you're not using press studs) . A pair of 6mm black eyes. © Asal! button to use as the baby's tummy button, © Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and a stitch marker. The legs do not require any stuffing (see photo). = = en Baby Assembly Use the tail of yarn that's left on the head & body section to add small horizontal lines (between rounds 14 and 15) for the nose and small vertical lines (over rounds 13 & 14) for the ears (see photos 1 & 2). "Next, weave the remaining tal of yarn so that it sticks out of the baby’s body in the position of the Ist arm, Insert your hook around a stitch on the body and draw up a loop of yarn (see photo 3). Ch 11 Work 3 hde stitches all into the 3rd ch from the hook, then sc 8 down the chain. I st back around a stitch on the body (see photo 4). Repeat this process for the 2nd arm (see photo 5) ‘Sew a vertical line on the baby’s bottom as shown (see photo 6) then FO and weave in the end, Next, squash the top of each leg flat, attach them to the body as shown and then weave in the ends (See photos 7 - 10). The legs should be left without stuffing so that they are able to bend at the knee, Using some finer black yarn or embroidery thread, add French knots for the eyes and then weave in the end. You can either embroider a smile in a suitable colour (see photo 11) or attach the indented side of a press stud as the baby’s mouth (see photo 12) Finally, sew a small button onto the baby’s tummy. Umbilical Cord in white or cream, make 1 piece. . Ch 6, sl st into the 1st ch to form a loop (this will become the buttonhole that attaches to the button on the baby's tummy so adjust the length of this loop to match the size of your button), Then, ch 30, FO leaving a tail of yarn. Tie a large knot at the end of the chain and then set it aside for later assembly (see photo 1). Back of Placenta in red, make 1 piece. Work in continuous rounds. Tummy / Mid Section Assembly Place the tummy / mid section that you just made over the stuffed internal pocket so that the c-section ‘openings on both pieces match up as shown (see photo 1). Next, wrap the rows on the section that you just made, all of the way around the back of the internal pocket as shown (see photos 2 and 3), ‘You will use the tail of yarn that you left on the tummy / mid section, to sew the last row to the ‘opposite side of the tummy, encasing the internal pocket as you do so. To do this, leave 10 empty stitches over the top of the tummy (see photo 4) and start attaching the end of the row into the 11th stitch. Sew all of the way along the row (see photo 5). This should leave 8 empty stitches on the underside of the tummy (see photo 6). Keep any remaining yarn for the next step. Next, working all of the way around the c-section opening, sew the two layers of crochet together (see photo 7), You can now weave in the end (ensuring that you don’t pass the yam through the internal pocket as you do so) (see photos 8 & ER Adding the Right Leg in your choice of skin tone.
