Fabric Inspection Systems Explained

The document outlines various fabric inspection systems, focusing on the 4 point system which assigns penalty points based on the size and significance of defects. It details how defects are scored, including specific point values for lengths and holes, and establishes criteria for determining fabric quality based on total defect points per 100 yard square. An example calculation demonstrates how to assess a fabric roll's acceptability based on its defects, resulting in a conclusion that the roll is accepted with a score of 18.4 points per 100 yard square.

Fabric is inspected to determine its acceptability from a quality viewpoint.

there are various fabric inspection system such as-

1. 4 point System

2. 10 point System

3. 2.5 point System

4. Dallas System

4 Point System : The 4 point system assigns 1,2,3,4 penalty points according to the size and
significance of the defects. No more than 4 penalty points can be assigned for any single
defect. Defect can be either length or width direction the system remains the same, only
major defects are considered. No penalty points are assigned to minor defects.

Fabric Defects point values based on the following :

length of defect. Points Allotted

1. 0-3 Inch 01

2. Over 3-6 Inch. 02

3. Over 6-9 Inch. 03

4. Over 9 Inch. 04

Holes and Openings:

1. 1 or less. 02 points

2. Over 1 Inch. 04 points

Calculation and Result:

1. If fabric rolls contains less than 40 point per 100 yard square are considered "first" quality
and as acceptance criteria.

2. If fabric rolls contains more than 40 point per 100 yard square are considered "second".

Example :

A fabric roll 130 yard long 45 inch wide contains the following defects ---

6 defects upto 3 inch. =6 x 1= 6

5 defects upto 3 inch less 6 inch=5 x 2= 10

2 defects up to 6 inch less 9 inch=2 x 3= 6

1 defects over 9 inch. =1 x 4= 4

1 hole over 1 inch dimensions =1 x 4= 4

Total defects points -----------=30

Therefore,

Points per 100 yard square =

Total defects point x 36 inch

---------------------------------------------------------------x100

Fabric width x total length yard inspected

30 x 36

= ----------- x 100

130 x 45

= 18.4

Defect point per 100 yard square. So, The roll is Accepted.
