In 5G, the resources applicable to the DL and UL are

defined as follows:

• Resource Block (RB): 12 consecutive subcarriers

• Reference Resource Blocks: For a carrier, reference

resource blocks are indexed starting at O and go up as
frequency increases. The first subcarrier indexed as
subcarrier 0 is common for all subcarrier Spacing (SCS)
configurations and is called Reference Point A.

• Common Resource Blocks (CRB): CRBS are resource blocks

that are transmitted by the gNB in the cell. For a carrier and
subcarrier Spacing (SCS), CRBS are indexed or numbered
starting at 0 and go up as frequency increases, to the
maximum CRBS supported. For a given numerology, the
maximum number of resource blocks supported by a carrier
is 275. Physical Resource Blocks (PRB): The resource blocks
that are within the carrier bandwidth part assigned to the
UE, are numbered starting at 0, and go to the number of
PRBS in the carrier bandwidth part. Carrier Bandwidth Part
(Carrier BWP): These PRBS within the carrier BWP are from
the CRBS for the same SCS. A carrier bandwidth part
assigned to a UE is a set of consecutive resource blocks
with a given SCS, where the PRBS are chosen from the
common resource blocks for the cell. The RBS use a
numerology on a given carrier.

• Bandwidth Adaptation: A UE transmit/receive with a

single carrier bandwidth part less than or equal to the cell
bandwidth. The UE can be configured with up to four
carrier bandwidth parts and associated SCS in the downlink
and uplink. For example:

1. BWP, - Bandwidth of 20 MHz and subcarrier spacing of

15 kHz

2. BWP, - Bandwidth of 10 MHz and subcarrier spacing of

15 kHz

3. BWP3 - Bandwidth of 10 MHz and subcarrier spacing of

30 kHz

4. BWP. - Bandwidth of 40 MHz and subcarrier spacing of

15 kHz
