UK September Intake Timeline FAQs
Q. When should I start my preparations for the UK September intake?

A. The earlier you start, the better it is. Make sure that your test scores, documents, finances, and
other related requirements are ready well before the admission applications commence. You
must start at least 15 months before the desired intake. You should also be prepared with
complete information on your finances/ scholarships/ loans.

Q. What if I face rejection in the university of my choice?

A. Always have a backup plan. Before you begin your application to your desired university, you
must have a backup of a few more universities. Applying to multiple universities provides you
with a cushion. Due to increased competition and high application rates, obtaining admission
into your targetted institution might not always be possible. Keeping a second or a third option is
always recommended as it will save your time as well as effort in case your application gets
rejected at the first university you're aiming for.

Q. What are the application deadlines for a Bachelor's and a Master's course in the UK?

A. For Bachelor's courses, the first deadline is January 15th with the last date of the application
being June 30th usually. The deadline for medicine and dentistry courses is October 15th. For the
postgraduate or master's courses, different deadlines may exist. Applicants are therefore advised
to reach out to consultants in the UK to inquire about the last date of application for their
preferred course.

the next intake, i.e. 2025 as soon as possible. You may also look at other countries such as
Canada, Finland, etc.

Q. How much will I have to spend on tuition fees in the UK?

A. How much fee an international student will have to pay depends upon his course level and
course type. It may also depend upon the city where you have taken admission. So a programme
centred around the social science and humanities stream will be less costly than the science
background courses. Overseas students may have to pay anything between £11,400 - £38,000.
Annually, the average expense will come to around £22,200. Similarly, for the postgraduate
courses, one may have to shell out anything between £9,000 - £30,000. Here, the average annual
expense will come to around £17,109.

Q. What is an A-level qualification? Can international students opt for it?

A. An A-Level or Advanced-level qualification is offered by UK higher educational institutes

and the duration of the same is two years. Through this, a student's eligibility for a UG
programme in the UK is evaluated. These are subject-based qualifications and a student can
choose 3 or more of the same. There is no cap on the number of attempts available for the same.
Eligibility criteria for this course include - 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4/A* to C at least and grade
six at least in the particular subject/subjects one intends to opt for in their A-Levels.

Q. Do UK universities offer distance education for international students?

A. Yes, a large number of institutions in the United Kingdom offer distance education for
international students who cannot visit the university for the same. One can attend virtual classes
from their home. This will save their time and effort to apply for a visa and relocate to another
country. Students will be able to obtain all the study material online which the university will
provide. Many institutions also offer postal services for the same.

Q. Can I opt for a part-time job along with my studies in the UK
A. Yes, overseas students studying in the United Kingdom are permitted to opt for part-time
employment, internship or work placement. For the majority of the courses, students can work
for a maximum of 20 hours every week during the term period. They can work on as well as off-
campus.

Q. What kind of jobs are available for overseas students who wish to work along with
studying in the UK?

A. Students can work both on-campus and off-campus. Some of the on-campus jobs include
library assistant, bookshop assistant, university health centre trainer, tutor, etc. Some of the off-
campus jobs include data entry, delivery services, reception jobs, etc. Many universities and
colleges recommend international students work for a maximum of 15 hours per week so that
they don't get tired or overworked.

Q. When should I register for the GRE, GMAT, IELTS and TOEFL exams for studying
abroad?

A. You should choose the standardised exam as per your chosen university or college. It is
recommended that you register for aptitude tests like the GMAT and GRE three months before
your test date and for English tests like the IELTS, TOEFL and PTE exams – a month ago. This
is to ensure that you do not miss out on a test slot for the time when you wish to take the exam.
