MEANING & CONCEPT
Organization:Organization is the structural framework of duties
and responsibilities required for a person in performing various
functions within the company.

It is a consciously, coordinated social unit ,composed of two or


more people ,function on relatively continuous basis to achieve a
common goal or set of goals.

Behaviour is way of action or external reaction to environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOUR
Organizational behavior (often abbreviated OB) is a field of
study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups,
and structure have on behavior within organizations, for the
purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an
organization’s effectiveness.

The study of human behaviour in organizational settings, the


interface between human behaviour and the organizational context,
and the organization itself.
Nature of Organizational Behaviour
1. OB is a part of general management and not the whole of
management. It represents behavioural approach to management.
2. OB contains a body of theory, research and application associated
with a growing concern for people at the workplace. It helps in
understanding human behaviour in work organizations.
3. OB is a human tool for human benefit. It helps in predicting the
behaviour of individuals.

4. OB is inter-disciplinary field of study. It tries to synthesize
knowledge drawn from various behavioural and social sciences
such as Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Political-science,
Economics, etc. In fact, OB is an applied behavioural sciences.
5. OB involves three levels of analysis of behaviour-individual
behaviour, group behaviour and behaviour of the organization itself.

6. OB is an action-oriented and goal-directed discipline. It provides
a rational thinking about people and their behaviour
7. OB is both a science and an art. The systematic knowledge about
human behaviour is a science. The application of behvioural
knowledge and skills clearly leans towards being an art.
8. OB seeks to fulfil both employees’ needs and organizational
objectives.
Scope of Organizational Behaviour: (Key
Elements)
1. People:
They differ in their knowledge, attitude, intelligence, capacity,
skill, memory and so on. Managers should identify the individual
differences before assigning work.
1. Structure:
without structure it is difficult to secure effective coordination of
the departmental activities.
1. Technology:
constitutes the tools employed in an organisation for achieving its
objectives, including the machines, work processes, software,
tools, gadgets, etc.

4. Environment:
- It can be defined as the social factors outside an organisation that
affect its employees. It includes cultural, economic, technological,
political and legal factors.

● Management:Management disciplines contribute to organizational behavior
by providing frameworks, theories, and tools that help understand, analyze,
and manage the complex dynamics within an organization.

● Economics: Economics analyses the allocation of resources and the behavior


of individuals and firms in economic systems. In OB, economics helps
understand how incentives, rewards, and decision-making processes affect
employee behavior and performance. Economic principles are used in OB to
design compensation systems, incentive plans, and cost-effective HR
policies.
