1935 Commonwealth Constitution

I. What is a Commonwealth?
The very definition of "commonwealth" is tied to the idea of a community
working together for the common welfare, whether this is within a single
nation or among a group of nations.
II. Important events during the establishment
A. March 24, 1934
The Tydings-McDuffie Act, officially known as the Philippine Commonwealth
and Independence Act, was signed into law by U.S President Franklin D.
Roosevelt. It allowed the Philippines to adopt a constitution and form a
government.
B. July 10, 1934
CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION was established where 200 members
drafted the 1935 Philippine Constitution.
C. February 8, 1935
The Convention was finished on February 8 and it was later sent to the
president of the US for the certification that such provisions are not contrary to
the Philippine Independence Act.
D. September 16, 1935
 An election occurred to elect a president and vice president.
 An estimate of a million Filipinos attended.
 President Manuel Quezon and Vice President Sergio Osmena were
elected.

 On November 13, 1937, the Institution of Language was established to
study the diverse dialects in the country.
 On December 30, 1937, Tagalog was declared as national language.
 June 19 1940, the start of using tagalog as means of teaching.
