Overall, the 1990s were a time of both great players


and significant challenges for baseball in the US. The
use of performance-enhancing drugs and the "steroid
era" had a significant impact on the game, while the
collapse of New York City baseball and the rise of
globalization were also notable trends. Despite these
challenges, the decade saw many great players and
memorable moments in the sport.
Baseball was among the earliest U.S. institutions to pursue
globalization, and organized baseball has rejuvenated and
dramatically stepped up its globalization efforts.

Each MLB club had its best player of the 1990s, with John
Olerud, Roger Clemens, Bernie Williams, and Ray Lankford
among the players listed.
