(d) Angular momentum
(e) Moment of Inertia
Q2 – Check the following equation for dimensional consistency. h = 2 s cos (θ)/r (ρ) g.
h= height, S = surface tension, ρ = density, r = radius and g = acceleration due to gravity.
Q3 . The wave length λ associated with a moving electron depends on its mass m, velocity v and
Plank’s constant h. Prove dimensionally that λ ∝ h/mv.
Q4 . By the method of dimensions, obtain an expression for the centripetal force F acting on a
particle of mass m moving with a velocity v in a circle of radius r. Take dimensionless constant K
= 1.
Q5. If the atmospheric pressure is 106 dyne cm-2. Find its value in SI units.

units. What will be the value of this force in CGS system?
Q7. Check by the method of dimensions whether the following equations are correct:
(a) E =mc2
(b) T = 2π √l/g
Q8. State the number of significant figures in the following measurements:

(d) 5.308 J
Q9. Case Based Study Questions –
1. When an object moves along a straight line with uniform acceleration, it is possible to relate
its velocity, acceleration during motion and the distance covered by it in a certain time interval
by a set of equations known as the equations of motion. For convenience, a set of three such
equations are given below:
v = u + at
s = ut + ½ at2
2as = v2- u2
Where u is the initial velocity of the object which moves with uniform acceleration a for time t,
v is the final velocity and s is the distance travelled by the object in time t.
(i) Equation of motions are applicable to motion with
a) Uniform acceleration c) non uniform acceleration
b) Constant velocity d) none of these
(ii) The distance travelled by a body is directly proportional to the square of time taken its
acceleration
a) Increases b) decreases c) becomes zero d) remains constant
iii) The brakes applied to a car produce an acceleration of 10 m/s^2 in the opposite direction to
the motion. If the car takes 1 s to stop after the application of brakes, calculate the distance
travelled during this time by car.
iv) An object is dropped from a tower falls with a constant acceleration of 10 m/s2. Find its
speed 10 s after it was dropped.
v) A bullet hits a target with a velocity of 10 m/s and penetrates it up to a distance of 5 cm. Find
the negative acceleration of the bullet in the target.
Q10 – (a) Derive the second equation of motion by using velocity time graph with neat diagram.
(b) Derive position velocity relation for uniformly accelerated motion from v-t graph.
