Swing mechanism solutions
Slewing bearings
SKF slewing bearings are
available for excavators as
large as 1 000 tons. All SKF
slewing bearings are cus-
tom-engineered and feature optimized seals to boost service
life and reliability in this continuous heavy load cycle applica-
tion. Slewing bearing diameters range up to 5 metres for
heavy excavators.
Slew drive bearings
Several SKF bearings support overall slew drive reliability
including pinion shaft and planet bearing positions in particu-
lar. SKF Explorer cylindrical roller bearings and spherical roller
bearings deliver long service life while supporting the extreme
radial loads typical of heavy excavator slew drives.
Rotary manifold seals
Along with separating the pressure of multiple
luid circuits and keeping high-pressure luid
within the unit, our rotary manifold seals feature a
special dynamic surface proile that cuts friction
up to 40% vs. standard proiles. In addition to the
eficiency savings, the lower friction contributes to
longer life and smoother operation.

Hydraulic pump
CARB and seals
To increase power density, the SKF solution for hydraulic
pumps uses a CARB toroidal roller bearing at the shaft drive-
end. CARB bearings accommodate misalignment between the
shaft and housing without any reduction in bearing service
life.
This SKF solution also features a tapered roller bearing with a
carbo-nitrite surface treatment to help reduce friction and
increase wear resistance. Customized, precision-machined
seals made from SKF’s proprietary ECOPUR material, a
thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer, also contributes to
increased wear resistance, delivering high protection from
dust and pollution, and high pressure resistance.

Hydraulic hammer
Seals
Hydraulic rock hammers require reciprocating seals
that can handle short strokes and extremely high
velocities. SKF offers a range of them, including
seals fabricated from high-temperature polyure-
thane and bonded to a low-friction PTFE anti-
extrusion ring for longer service life and less
maintenance.
SKF automatic lubrication
systems for hydraulic hammers
Fitted directly on the hammer, the SKF Hydrau-
lic Driven Lubricator features a unique internal
design that performs well with chisel paste and
within the harsh environments in which ham-
mers operate. The lubricator delivers optimized
lubrication during operation, eliminating the
need for costly and time-consuming manual
relubrication.

Engine shaft seals
Featuring sophisticated elastomer materials,
the SKF Low Friction Engine Seal offers
extended service life and more than 50% lower
friction than spring-loaded seal designs.
SKF Rotostat integrated
crankshaft seals
With dynamic and static seals bonded directly to
a carrier or retainer, SKF Rotostat seals
reduce leak paths by 50% while allowing
the integration of an engine management
sensor and trigger wheels.
Axial cassette seals
Featuring an axial sealing lip with a garter
spring, SKF axial cassette seals provide a
robust, long-life solution for heavy-duty engine
crankshafts.
Standard and high-pressure
valve stem seals
Offering consistent oil metering for opti-
mum valve lubrication and minimum
engine emissions, SKF valve stem seals
are available for diesel and gasoline
engines, in standard and high-pressure designs.
Spark plug and injector tube seals
Able to accommodate misalignment for sealing
spark plugs, solenoids or injectors, these rub-
ber-coated, corrosion-resistant static seals
withstand higher temperatures than seals
made from standard materials.
SKF Engine fan support module
Several new technologies that help construction equipment
comply with emissions regulations also drive engine tempera-
tures. To help control these higher temperatures, SKF devel-
oped the friction and weight-optimized SKF Engine fan sup-
port module.

Much like other excavator components that are remanufac-
tured by the manufacturer, slewing bearings and other bear-
ings can very often be remanufactured and delivered much
more quickly, and at a considerable cost savings compared to
new bearings.

Lubrication system design and installation
SKF can help you implement an automated centralized lubri-
cation system based on your operating requirements. Our
lubrication specialists will work with your team to outit your
equipment with a lubrication system that helps ensure opti-
mum lubrication at each machine lubrication point. A grease
pump, grease feeding lines and an electronic control unit can
be mounted on any excavator to lubricate several positions as
the excavator operates, including the slewing ring, boom, stick
and bucket.
Condition monitoring and diagnostic
