silicone coating provides a maintenance-reduced system

flashovers on any type of high-voltage insulators. Midsun
HVIC silicone is not affected by UV light, temperature,
corrosive environments, or ATH pitting from dry band
arcing. The coating is also hydrophobic (water repellent),
so contaminants cannot solidify into a film over the
surface. This coating application is a long-term solution to
flashover problems.

1) What is the required thickness for Midsun HVIC?
Midsun HVIC recommends an average of a 15 mil thickness is optimal. Based on our long
term success.

2) Why should you maintain a 15 mil thickness or above average?

Midsun HVIC’s life is usually determined by loss of hydrophobicity, and having a 15 mil
coating would provide optimal performance and life of the application.

3) How long will the coating last?

Longevity depends on a variety of factors including environmental and weather related.
Under the very worst conditions the coating should last an average of ten years. Dependant
on application the coating could last longer.

4) Can coatings be applied for De-Energized and Energized applications?

Yes. Midsun provides different formulations for Energized and De-Energized formulations. We
recommend coating to be done in a De-Energized environment but it can be completed
either way with the proper tools and properly trained personel.
