I - COMPRÉHENSION

Il s’agit d’un article issu du quotidien américain The New York Times écrit par Kim
Severson et publié le 23 janvier 2023. La journaliste se penche sur le fonctionnement des
cantines professionnelles aux États-Unis. Pour les plus jeunes, la qualité de la cantine sur leur
lieu de travail est essentielle. C’est la raison pour laquelle de nombreuses entreprises tentent
de les moderniser ; en effet, celles-ci n’ont plus beaucoup de succès, comme l’indique Casey
Allen.
Selon Fedele Bauccio, qui gère de nombreuses cantines professionnelles, les lieux de
restauration immenses ne sont plus à la mode, d’autant plus que de tels espaces sont très
onéreux pour les entreprises.
Selon l’auteure, les plus jeunes générations préfèrent un lieu où elles peuvent déjeuner
tranquillement et sociabiliser. Grâce à celles-ci, les repas se diversifient et sont fabriqués de
manière plus écoresponsable. On sert, par exemple, moins de viande ou des aliments de plus
grande qualité.
Certaines entreprises proposent également des tickets-restaurant, des bons pour se
faire livrer de la nourriture, voire des repas gratuits.
Enfin, les cantines ressemblent de plus en plus à des restaurants afin que les employés
se sentent bien. C’est par exemple le cas du restaurant de San Francisco « The Anecdote » qui
a ouvert ses portes en mars 2023.

II - EXPRESSION ÉCRITE

Sujet 1

First and foremost, I believe that working in a healthy and wholesome environment is
absolutely essential to one’s well-being. Moreover, any employee can be confronted with
difficult situations and I would argue that it is essential for our colleagues to help and to
support us. In my opinion, you cannot be productive and be good at your job if you feel you
are not being supported by your co-workers.
Let me give you an example. Last Summer, I used to work at a supermarket and it was
sometimes extremely difficult for me to go as fast as my colleagues. But thanks to their help
and advice, I managed to grow and to be better at my job. Whenever a customer would say
something rude, I knew that I could talk about it. I think that being able to face difficulties with
my colleagues prevented me from feeling unwell and from a burn-out.
However, I would also argue that having a good salary and flexible hours are also key
to my well-being since I would like to pursue other passions. Having a job that you like and
feeling useful or helping others are also essential to one’s well-being in general.
To conclude, I would say that wellness at work is one of my top priorities as my mental
well-being stems from whether I live in a non-toxic environment.

My name is Pat Peterson and I would be Tyler Swift’s new assistant. I hope this email
finds you well. I am really looking forward to meeting every single one of you.
Do let me know if there is anything I can do for you ! As an assistant to our “happiness
manager”, I would like to give you a few ideas of what we might do in the future.
First and foremost, my goal is to make sure you feel happy and well. As you know,
we’ve just organized our Mardi-gras party. Only seven colleagues out of three hundred have
attended this party… So, I would like you to tell me what went wrong. Was the food not great
? Did it start too early ? Was the music not loud enough ? Was my costume too ridiculous ?...
But let’s think about the future ! I am planning on throwing a huge party on July 4th,
2024 ! I will send you another email to set a meeting so that I can discuss this with you.
Last but not least, Tyler is also planning on redecorating the cafeteria. He suggested
that we might have more options when it comes to meals (more vegan or vegetarian options
etc).
