Background

The Experimental mine is expanding to a second level of the mine; the decline has been blasted
and blasting is commencing on the proposed second level. The rock is limestone; ρ=160lb/ft 3.
The area needs to be blasted and excavated forward at the current dimensions.

Given Information
Design all holes to be drilled a depth of 6’
The area is 16’wide x 10’tall
DDrillhole= 1¾ ”
Packaged Emulsion with a density of 1.15g/cc is to be used.
Use a powder factor of 2.5 lb/cyd ± 5%

Deliverables
1. A professional report detailing all factors that may affect the blast and how those factors
will be mitigated through proper blast design
a. This could be adjustments that needed to be made because of the use of modern
explosives and the design criteria being meant for older explosives
2. Clearly written or typed blast design calculations
3. A 2D autocad file; drawn to scale
a. Include the outline of the heading with blast holes on the interior
i. Include the timing of the blast
b. Include a cross section of how a typical blast hole will be loaded
i. Provide dimensions as appropriate on the drawing (Do not over-
dimension)
