Andrew McVinish, Vice President, Private Collections and European Furniture, said of Country House Elegance: An Architectural Vision: The consignor assembled a focused and well researched selection of furniture and decorative artmany from great houses such as Hamilton Palace, Northumberland House and Baronscourtwhich strongly evokes the splendor of the Gilded Age. Pieces from the wonderfully diverse collection were strongly sought after by a wide range of international and U.S. buyers, with bidding on Christie's LIVETM representing a significant portion of the sale. We are delighted that several lots realized well over their pre-sale estimates, including the Apulian Red-Figured Volute-Krater and the George II Portland Stone chimneypiece, which realized $ 74,500 and $72,100, respectively.
