The owner of a Historic Downtown Leesburg business had his home burglarized on the evening of Nov. 18. Stanley Caulkins, who owns Caulkins Jewelers, came home to find eight firearms and bottle of prescription medication missing from his home, which is right outside of downtown Leesburg.

Caulkins has owned Caulkins Jewelers since 1956 in Leesburg. Since then, its become a staple in the downtown community. Caulkins said after closing his store that night he went home to find a hole in his back door. When I got home after I closed the store I went home [and] the back door looked funny cause it had a black hole through it, Caulkins said. There was no door there and all the door panels were knocked out. He said he has two doors the second one is double bolted. The burglar must have hit the door hard enough to split the framing around the door, he said. I have to believe somebody knew something because I had eight guns covered up with coats, he said. They took the eight guns and all the ammunition. Somebody went up stairs in the bathroom and took the Vicodin I have a prescription for. They didnt ransack the place or tear the place up ... just the two doors. Caulkins said the guns werent expensive but they were collectable pieces. He said he filed reports with the police and his insurance company. The fact that they violated my personal home is maddening enough, he said. The case is under investigation by the Leesburg Police Department Criminal Investigations Section. They ask anyone who may have information about this incident to call (703) 771-4500. Anonymous callers can call the Leesburg Crime Line at (703) 443-TIPS.
