For all circuits, do not consider channel length modulation for calculating bias points. Unless otherwise specified, channel length modulation
effect needs to be considered for small-signal analysis. All answers should be given to the second decimal place.
Course outline
General hints: small-signal output resistance of a MOSFET rDS = 1/(λ·I D ); For determining output resistance of longer-than-minimum-length
About NPTEL () devices, use the relation λ·L = constant; Remember that overdrive or saturation voltage VOV = VDS,sat = VGS - VT . To calculate noise with reactive
components, use the magnitude of complex impedances (or its square) to determine the noise voltage/current densities (or its square).
How does an NPTEL
online course work? () Circuit and device parameters are:
Vdd = 5V; VTn = VTp = 1V; μn Cox = 50μA/V2 ; μp Cox = 25μA/V2 ; λn = λp = 0.01 V -1 for Lmin = 1 μm

4) Calculate the input-referred thermal noise voltage density of the amplifier in V/sqrt(Hz)at very high frequencies (again, assume CS is an AC
short circuit at these frequencies).

5) Assume that the current in transistor M1 is now increased to 2mA to try to increase the gain. Determine the new position of the pole in MHz,
in the expression for voltage gain.

Figure 2: (W/L)1 = (W/L)2 = (80μm/1μm); Io = 0.5mA; C = 10 pF; Current source is ideal and noiseless; Some bias details are not shown. You
should consider small-signal rds of both transistors for questions related to this figure.
7) Calculate the small-signal output resistance of the amplifier (in Mega-ohms) at very low frequencies (assume that impedance of capacitor C
is very large compared to rds and 1/gm of both transistors)
