AND THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT DAMAGE

IN THE ENTROP AREA OF 1AYAPURA CITY

ABSTRACT

The change in land used aimed in one hand at giving optimal results, while
in other hand it had negative impact on living environment. Land scarcity caused
the conversion oI preservation areas that subsequently resulted in physical
environment damages oI critical land and Ilood.
Concerning with the negative impact it was necessary to conduct a study
oI the change in land use. It was conducted in the Entrop areas oI Jayapura City
and aimed at analyzing the change in the land use, its inIluencing Iactors and
whether there was a signiIicant correlation between the change in the land use and
the physical environment damage in the Entrop areas oI Jayapura City. It used
rationalistic method, while the analysis was made using overlay technique and
graphical and tabulation description oI the correlation between the change in te
land use and the physical environment damages.
The results oI the study showed that there has been the change in the land
use oI 43 hectares oI width in the period oI 1999 to 2009 in which 28.7 hectares
were situated in the preservation areas (KSA/KPA and TWA). The change in the
land use was inIluenced by three Iactors, which were the policy oI the government
oI Jayapura City, the growth and the development oI the local population, and the
land holding. The graphical and tabulation description indicated the presence oI
signiIicant correlation between the change in the land use and the physical
environment damage oI increasingly wider critical land, erosion and Ilood in the
Entrop area oI Jayapura City. In order to prevent and to reduce more serious
physical environment damage oI the entropy area, relocation or maintenance oI
the entropy area could be organized in accordance with its current Iunction by
zoning perIormance.
