Station #1 The Girl in Red Scene in Schindler s List First read the brief information regarding each clip

of Schindler s List, an American film that won Best Picture and six other Academy Awards in 1993. Then watch the clips carefully and critically in the order below. Please note: some of the clip s content may be difficult to see. This clip shows Schindler, a National Socialist Party member and shrewd, German businessman planning to make money off nearby Jewish inmates, witnesses the clearing out of a Jewish ghetto. At this point, Schindler s perspective changes and he begins to assist inmates as he can. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1VL-y9JHuI&feature=related It is when Schindler sees this young girl, he vows to do what he can to stand up to the Nazi regime. Why do you think he makes that decision? In Schindler s List, the scene with the young girl is one of four instances where color is used in the video. Why do you think Steven Spielberg has shot her character in color? What does the little girl symbolize in the story of the Holocaust?

Station #2 I Never Saw Another Butterfly Review the timeline on page 105. Pay attention to the decreasing numbers of children. Then, you will read the parts Ms. V. has marked with sticky notes on the following pages and answer the corresponding questions: viii-ix Why were the kids able to do art work?

YES you need to write the notes in the boxes. You cannot move on from one to the next until you complete all the work, which means you need to go in order from 1-3, then conclusions. When you have completed the conclusion, please print your sheet for Ms. V. If time remains, you may do the extension activities.
