Introduction
Not a day goes by without the Syrian regime committing grave human rights abuses in different cities and areas of Syria. The Syrian regime has always been known to be among the worst in human rights abuses, but the nature, brutality, and frequency of these abuses have taken a new turn since the beginning of the Syrian Revolution last March. Thus, the Human Rights Council of the United Nations considers the regimes practices crimes against humanity. In this recurring report produced by the Local Coordination Committees in Syria (LCC), we document several of these abuses in the period of time covered by the file. The abuses are also classified by the severity and brutality of the abuses, as well as their geographical locations. The information in these reports is derived from cases documented by the LCCs legal and media team, who base their information from activists on the ground. The information is either cross-referenced from multiple sources to ensure its integrity, or drawn directly from the families of victims. The statistics for the martyr count come from the Center for Documenting Abuses in Syria (www.vdc-sy.org), whose database is constantly verified and updated by the Centers activists. Homs
During the period December 16-31, 2011, the city witnessed bombardment with rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), artillery shells, and heavy machine guns, in addition to intense gunfire from checkpoints. The situation became even worse after the Arab League observers arrived to the city. On December 16, Omar Al Yasin was killed in Dier Baalba by security forces gunfire, and was the first martyr of that Friday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdgWwJKUpEU Nisreen Ali Quatli, 28, was prevented from reaching the hospital for a Caesarian birth (she was carrying twins). She died at the checkpoint. Security forces stationed at the checkpoints located near the traffic signal in Al Siteen Street in Deir Baalba shot at a vehicle carrying five people. Three were injured and the other two were martyred. Among the martyred was Malik Al Jadaan, who had been an orphan from an early age. He was responsible for his six brothers.

Dr. Mustafa Hijazi was martyred and several others were injured when snipers targeted a demonstration in front of the Hamood Al Naseer Mosque in the Al-Qosour neighborhood. In Al Kaseer, Maryam Mohammed Suliman, 42, was martyred; her corpse was found under a bridge near the National Hospital. Mohammaed Al Hussain Awad, from Heit village, was martyred due to security forces gunfire at the Heit checkpoint. The village was heavily shelled that morning and more than 15 shells fell on the village. The electricity generator was targeted by security forces, which resulted in a huge fire in the market area. There was an uninterrupted electicity blackout. On the same day, Mohammed Jammal Al Ali was martyred in the Bayada neighborhood. A sniper shot him in the back while he was in the Al Waer neighborhood with his sister.

Pharmacist Ghassan Mahir Khankan was martyred when a sniper shot him in the head; he was transferred to Al Ber hospital, but he died.

The others had been killed in massacres conducted by security forces and the regimes military in the town the day before. The martyrs are: Isam Abbas, Taj Al Haj Qasim Swid, Hassan Al Mattar, and Suliman Qarfouz.

Torn corpse of a child after a mortar shell landed on his house

The following video shows a sniper targeting someone from the Al Sebaee family; he was back at his house in Al Qouatli Street in the middle of Homs city. On that day there was random hunting in the city center.

Martyr Abdulkareem Suliman Abbara

On December 24, security forces murdered Ghazi Mohammed Khalid Zoeed, former Secretary General of the Baath Party Branch in Homs, and his wife Rajaa Mohammed Khalid Bakaar, after raiding their home in the Baba Amr neighborhood and shooting them to death. Security forces then burned the house. Martyr Ghazi had been previously threatened by the regime because of his support of the uprising.

On the same day, Basel Al Sayed, one of the activists (field videographer), was martyred while he was filming a checkpoint.

Damascus Suburbs
During this reporting period, the Damascus suburbs experienced heavy security and military deployments, snipers stationed on rooftops, new checkpoints being erected, sieges on all mosques, and the destruction of shops to break the Strike for Dignity. In addition to all this, security forces continued their raid and arrest campaigns. The following video clip shows the deployment of army and security in Saqba on December 16.

Idlib
Dozens of families were displaced from Jisr Al-Shughour to Turkey as a result of the security forces aggression during the period December 16-31, 2011. Security forces arrested Dr Najib Taher Al-Adl at one of the military checkpoints in the town. He was taken to an unknown location after security forces burned down his private hospital and accused him of treating those injured during demonstrations. On December 16, in Kafr Takharim, youth activist Bilal Jabas was shot dead by Syrian security forces while he was filming a demonstration.

In Jassem, on the third Friday of the month, a child was killed: Ahmad Suleiman al Salkhadi, 14, following his bullet wounds from security forces during a demonstration.

Aleppo
On December 20, security forces detained scores of students and faculty members from Aleppo University. They were targeted for participating in a demonstration, which started at the Department of Engineering and Technology, and later extended to the courtyard at the Department of Electrical Engineering.
