Red Sanders

Land: Dry loamy red soil is very best suitable (Can grow anywhere in sandy loamy soils with good drain) Water: Proper irrigation is required (Running Drip two times for 2hrs a day is the best option to reduce mortality rate till three years from date of plantation.) Weather: It can grow anywhere in India except in temperate places like Uttarakhand and other Himalayan regions. Ideal Plantation: 3m X 3m espacement (distance between plants) / can also go for 4.5mX4.5m espacement Intercropping: Can do intercropping up to 4 years like ground nut or medicinal plants and later can opt any shaded plants till its harvest. Preparation of soil: Deep plough is required and Form Yard Manure (FYM) has to apply for soil fertility. One can also use bio-fertilizers rather usage of chemical fertilizers to strengthen the soil. Pits: 45cm X 45cm X 45cm pits are good enough to plant 1 feet height baby plants. Protection: 4/5 layer fence around the plantation area to protect plants from livestock. Maintenance: Periodical application of FYM and 1 time plough before rainy season is required. Harvesting period: After 18 to 20 years. Salable parts: Heartwood only though entire plant having medicinal properties we have no such requirements in India. So one should sale only heartwood of the plant after debarking and removing sapwood. (Bark -> sapwood -> heartwood (3 layers of the plant)). Present cost of Red Sanders: Rs.1,20,000/MT to Rs.1,80,000/-MT and it is up to 3,00,000/MT of high quality (girth of more than 30-40 inches) Plants per Acre: 350 to 400 Mortality rate: 10-15% Estimated Yield in 20 years: 60-80MT per Acre Future estimated cost or Red Sanders: Rs.5,00,000 to Rs.8,00,000 per MT within India and Rs.20,00,000/Mt outside (Currently there is Rs.16,00,000/MT in China )

(Transportation charges are extra) Cost per Acre: Soil preparation: Rs.3000/FYM: Rs.2000/Bio-Fertilizers if applied: Rs.1250/Plants: 350 X 22 = 7700 or 400 X 22 = 8800 Pits and plantation: 2000/Total: 350 Plants per Acre: 2000+7700+1250+2000+3000 = 15950/400 plants per Acre: 2200+8800+1250+2000+3000 = 17250/-
