EmpTech Guide Questions
1. Why is it essential for digital technology to progress?
- Digital technology has been advancing rapidly, enhancing our connectivity and
communication around the world, our quality of life, our efficiency and automation, and
our overall economic growth. Its progress is important to discover those that are
undiscovered more efficiently, such as global issues we face today like finding cures for
various diseases using medical research, solutions for real-world problems, and being
able to attain alternative, more viable innovations that may benefit us more than the
current ones. With the use of communication, information, and technology we’ve been
improving day by day, and we will be able to further tackle the challenges we may face in
the present and the future.
2. How do you see the development of digital technology 10 years from now?
- We expect significant advances in technology during the next ten years. Artificial
Intelligence (AI) will progress rapidly, leading to more effective automation and
customized experiences. Complex global issues will be addressed by quantum
computers more quickly, enhancing cybersecurity precautions among other things.
Global networks will speed up, and 5G technology will improve augmented and virtual
reality experiences. More devices will be discovered by researchers and scientists,
improving innovations in science and other fields that will help in industrial and economic
growth globally.
3. If you’re going to design a technology that will answer one of the millennium
problems of the world, what will it be and why?
- Pollination is important for the reproduction of many crops including crops that are
crucial for the food production of us humans. Natural pollinators like bees play an
important role in transferring pollen between flowers enabling plants to produce fruits
and seeds. However, almost all insect pollinators decrease in population due to factors
such as pesticide use by farmers, habitat loss, and climate change causing pollinators to
die. To solve this millennium problem, we planned on designing a robotic bee that
mimics real bees in both appearance and behavior. This robot would be equipped with
lightweight materials and sensors to navigate and pollinate flowers using a special
mechanism of the robot to transfer pollen from one crop to another crop. Advanced AI
would help identify pollen and visit flowers efficiently. Below is the diagram we made that
illustrates the different important parts of our “PolliBot” robot
