Gluttony

By: Andrew Zeng Excerpt from Dantes Purgatorial (Treatment and Suffering from Gluttony):
23.34 - 23.37 O Beatrice, sweet guide and dear! She said to me: What overwhelms you is a Power against which nothing can defend itself. This is the Wisdom and the Potency opened roads between the earth and Heaven, the paths for which desire had long since waited. 23.121 - 23.139 And like an infant who, when it has taken. its milk, extends its arms out to its mother, its feeling kindling into outward flame, each of those blessed splendors stretched its peak upward, so that the deep affection each. possessed for Mary was made plain to me. Then they remained within my sight, singing, Regina coeli with such tenderness. that my delight in that has never left me. Oh, in those richest coffers, what abundance is garnered up for those who, while below, on earth, were faithful workers when they sowed! Here do they live, delighting in the treasure they earned with tears in Babylonian exile, where they had no concern for gold Here, under the high Son of God and Mary, together with the ancient and the new councils, he triumphs in his victory

Gluttony Poem
Gluttony is like the modern day roller coaster, many bright colors to attract potential customers. The joy of the uphill climb and the thrill of the height, like the self-satisfaction - the first effects of Gluttony. At first, Gluttony is quite pleasing, quite addictive, like a cigarette stick. One stick doesnt satisfy, More and More! We are blinded by our wants, failing to look harder to see the flaws. Before long, we squander our resources, our time. 20 cigarette boxes lay empty on the floor But then, one day, our roller coaster has approached the top, and without any warning or caution, dwindles down rapidly. Obesity, illness and misery follow soon after. But, even before we sat down onto that atrocious roller coaster, Even before we were clouded by that cigarette butt, we had already known about the danger of the cigarette. We had already feared the coaster drop. We knew the fall would be terrible, the heights would be extreme, yet we still decided to ride. We had no self-control to stop ourselves It doesnt matter how many times wed promised ourselves never to pick up a cigarette. It doesnt matter how many people have warned us about the scare of the roller coaster, we will not change. Everything is for the now, we never think for the future. This is modern day gluttony.

*The technology in our modern day world allows for rapid hunting of shark fin a Chinese delicacy served at Banquets and Weddings, which is an extraneous food product that is causing many species of sharks to become extinct.*
