Module 3: Solving and Addressing General Workplace Problems

Name: Mariella Manalo Date:_________

Activity 1: Introductory Activity & Pre-Module Learner’s Reflection (Page 8-9)

Think about the quote found on the first part of the module. “You have a brain and mind of your
own. Use it and reach your own decisions.” In your own understanding, what do you think is the
meaning of this quote? How does the quote relate to furthering your career?

The statement, "You have a brain and mind of your own. Use it and reach your own decisions,"
highlights how crucial independent thought and accountability are while making decisions. It
challenges people to merely follow the ideas of others or social standards, but to think critically,
trust their own judgment, and base decisions on their own values, knowledge, and experiences.
The statement basically serves as a reminder that you are in charge of your job and that you
can mold it to fit your own goals and skills by applying your own judgment and making wise
decisions.

Think a time of your life when you experienced a difficult situation. Write down your experience
on how you handled that difficult situation. Please cite only one.

I experienced a difficult situation when we organized an outreach program for students with
autism. Our project head wasn’t able to arrive on time and I was the host. The project head did
not orient me for the changes of the program flow so I had to figure it out without showing to the
participants that I am having a difficulty.

Activity 2: Describing a Routine Procedural Problem (Page 16-18)

Let’s Exercise: Writing Problem Statements

Since there are many kinds of problems happening within a workplace, let us go deeper by
focusing on routine/procedural problems. Here are some common examples of procedural
problems in specific industries. Let us try to understand why the problem existed and identify the
root cause of the problems below. Choose at least two from the four scenarios below. Develop a
problem statement based on the information you know so far about each situation.

Scenario 2

Deandre, the company's receptionist, is having trouble getting his computer to switch on
correctly. Even if I push the power button, the computer turns on for a brief moment before
shutting off. Because of this issue, Deandre is finding it difficult to carry out his job effectively
because he cannot access the information and tools he needs on his computer. Deandre's
ability to carry out his duties efficiently going forward depends on finding a quick solution to this
problem that doesn't interfere with his workflow.

Scenario 3

Lisa, a ZD Holdings employee, accidently erased a vital database that contained private client
data. Customers of the company are quite unhappy as a result of this data breach, and they are
now reluctant to give their information again. ZD Holdings must therefore work to win back the
trust of its clients while also making sure that a similar situation doesn't happen again. To avoid
future problems, the organization needs to address its immediate concerns about data recovery,
customer interactions, and putting stronger data management procedures in place.
