20. In Figure-5, ΔPQR is right-angled at P. M is a point on QR such that PM is perpendicular to QR . Show that PQ2 =
QM × QR.

Answer all questions from 21 to 24. Each question carries 3 scores. ( 4 × 3 = 12)
21. In the given figure, ABCD is a parallelogram. BE bisects CD at M and intersects AC at L . Prove that EL = 2BL.

22. The areas of two similar triangles are 121 cm2 and 64 cm2 respectively. If one median of the first triangle is 12.1
cm long, then find the length of the corresponding median of the other triangle.

23. If (−5,3) and (5,3) are two vertices of an equilateral triangle, then find coordinates of the third vertex, given that
origin lies inside the triangle. (Take √3 = 1.7 )

24. The first term of an A.P. is 5 , the last term is 45 and the sum of all the terms is 400 . Find the number of terms and
the common difference of the A.P.

Answer all questions from 25 to 26. Each question carries 4 scores. ( 2 × 4= 8)

Case Study – 1

25. In Mathematics, relations can be expressed in various ways. The matchstick patterns are based on linear relations.
Different strategies can be used to calculate the number of matchsticks used in different figures.

One such pattern is shown below. Observe the pattern and answer the following questions using Arithmetic
Progression :

(a) Write the AP for the number of triangles used in the figures. Also, write the nth term of this AP. (2)
(b) Which figure has 61 matchsticks ? (2)
Case Study – 2

26. A garden is in the shape of a square. The gardener grew saplings of Ashoka tree on the boundary of the garden at
the distance of 1 m from each other. He wants to decorate the garden with rose plants. He chose a triangular region
inside the garden to grow rose plants. In the above situation, the gardener took help from the students of class 10.
They made a chart for it which looks like the given figure.

Based on the above, answer the following questions :


(i) If A is taken as origin, what are the coordinates of the vertices of △ PQR ? (1)
(ii) (a) Find distances PQ and QR . (2)

OR
(b) Find the coordinates of the point which divides the line segment joining points P and R in the ratio (2)

2: 1 internally.

(iii) Find out if △ PQR is an isosceles triangle. (1)

Answer all questions from 27 to 29. Each question carries 5 scores. ( 3 × 5 = 15)

27. (a) In the given figure, △ FEC ≅△ GDB and ∠1 = ∠2.

Prove that △ ADE ∼△ ABC.

(b) Sides AB and AC and median AD of a △ ABC are respectively proportional to sides 𝑃𝑄 and 𝑃𝑅 and median
𝑃𝑀 of another △ 𝑃𝑄𝑅. Show that △ ABC ∼△ PQR.

28. The ratio of the 11th term to the 18th term of an A.P. is 2: 3. Find the ratio of the 5th term to the 21st term. Also,
find the ratio of the sum of first 5 terms to the sum of first 21 terms.

29. If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides at distinct points, prove that the
other two sides are divided in the same ratio.
