Start of the play:


(Curtain opens) (A boy sitting under tree on river-side) Narrator: On a beautiful full moon day in Indrapur, Rahul was sitting in a on the river-side. He was lonely, sad and crying. (Music plays I am so lonely) (A beautiful girl with pot on her head, walks humming a sweet tune, she fills water in her pot, looks up and see Rahul. Seeing him so sad, she approaches him) Girl: Hellow dear, why are sitting like this here, it is not safe, please go home. Boy: I cannot go home. Girl: Why u dont have place to live? (Boy starts crying) Girl: Oh, please dont cry Please tell me what has happened!! I might be able to help you. Boy: I am son of the rich merchant; the great Kashi Nath. Today morning.. (Curtain draws) (Music plays Subha subha.. yeh kya huha) (Boy lying on the bed, father sitting beside and working) Man: Son, please get me that blue file. (Rahul lazily gets up and brings the red file) Man: You dumb-head, is this blue colour, dont you know difference between red and blue!

Rahul: All colours look the same, father. They all are made from rainbow. Man: Shut up, You fool. (Woman enters) Woman: Why are shouting at my darling son? (Pampers his son) He is such a sweet-heart. Accha, I am going to the river-side, would be back in some minutes. Dare you said anything to my beta. (Woman leaves with a pot; Man goes and bring the correct file.) Man: This is Blue file. (Man tried with the work.) Man: U fool, go get me a glass of water. You know what is water right.. Boy (nervously): Yahh..naaah..yaah.. Man: Dumb that clean and cold pure liquid. (Boy goes n comes with a glass of water) Boy: Water, Father (Man drinks water and spit it out.) Man(angrily): U dumb-head from where did you get this water? Boy: I brought this from the cow-shed. Man (gets up):What, you fool, Why? Boy: Mother once said that the cows urine is the most pure liquid. Man: But that is not water You fool, you made me drink Go-mutra (Woman enters) Woman: You are still shouting on the apple of our eyes. (Pampers son) He is such sweet and innocent boy. Go out beta, go and meet your friends. Take this 10 rupee and have some fun. Dont be sad. (Boy leaves.) Man: I still dont believe he is my son. He is such a big fool. Woman: Please dont say so After so many years, god blessed us with a child. Man: It was better to be child-less. (Woman interrupts) Woman: Please!!! He is our son. (Woman sobbing sits in a corner.)

Man: Okie baba, Fine. I am sorry. Woman: Deepa met me at the river, her son Kartik is getting married next week. Man: Good, Hari-dev will be really happy seeing his son getting settled. Woman: Kartik is 2 years elder to our Rahul. Dont you think it is high time that we get same happiness that Hari bhai is getting. Man: How many times are we going to talk this again.. I have told you so many times that our son is never going to get married. Woman: Mehta jees son is 1 year elder to Rahul. His wife is expecting her second child. Rahul is getting really late. I want to see my grandchildren. Man: Your lad, is a fool, he cant even take care of himself. Woman: Why do you think so? He is so handsome and wise; any father will give their daughter to him. Man: Have you lost your senses.. Your son and wise. OUR SON IS NOT GOING TO GET MARRIED EVER. Woman: Why!! Can you never see and say well about him. He is our son. I have never asked you anything. Just please hear my plea. (Man starts to walk out) Woman: Dont leave. (Woman blocks the way.) Man: I have nothing more to say. Woman: I want my son married thats all. Man(angrily) : Go get your son, Lets end up all this now. (Woman goes out n bring son) Man to his son: Have you spent those 10 rupee your mother gave? Son: No (Looks worriedly towards mother) Woman: nothing to worry son! Man: Your mother is eating my head since days. I do not believe there is grain of truth in anything she says. But just for your mother sake, I am giving you a chance. Son, go get me, one item from the bazaar, out of those that 10 rupees, that item must be something to eat, something to drink, something to chew on, something to plant in garden and some food for the cow. (Curtain draws) Mother happy voice: That my son can bring easily. (Curtain opens) (Scene1: Boy and girl on river-side) Girl: That is so easy. I have a solution. Dont be sad. (Curtain draws)

Narrator: What solution you think the girl gave? Does anybody have the answer. What one thing can be bought in 10 rupees? That item must be something to eat, something to drink, something to chew on, something to plant in garden and some food for the cow. (Curtain opens): Girl: "Go and buy a watermelon with one paisa. It provides something to eat, to drink, to chew upon, to plant in the garden, and some food for the cow. Give it to your parents and they will be pleased." Boy: Thankyou so much You are my angel. (Curtain closes) Narrator: Indeed, all were very pleased with the girl's advice, including the boy's parents. They invited the family of the maiden to dinner. Before long the daughter of the ironsmith married the merchant's son, and they all lived happily ever after. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
