UGLY DUCKLING
The ugly duckling Story Time Mummy Duck lived on a farm. In her nest, she had five little eggs
and one big egg. One day, the five little eggs started to crack. Tap, tap, tap! Five pretty, yellow
baby ducklings came out. Then the big egg started to crack. Bang, bang, bang! One big, ugly
duckling came out.
Nobody wanted to play with him. ‘Go away,’ said his brothers and sisters. ‘You’re ugly!’
The ugly duckling was sad. So he went to find some new friends. ‘Go away!’ said the pig. ‘Go
away!’ said the sheep. ‘Go away!’ said the cow. ‘Go away!’ said the horse.
No one wanted to be his friend. It started to get cold. It started to snow! The ugly duckling found
an empty barn and lived there. He was cold, sad and alone.
Then spring came. The ugly duckling left the barn and went back to the pond. He was very
thirsty and put his beak into the water. He saw a beautiful, white bird! ‘Wow!’ he said. ‘Who’s
that?’
‘It’s you,’ said another beautiful, white bird. ‘Me? But I’m an ugly duckling.’ ‘Not any more.
You’re a beautiful swan, like me. Do you want to be my friend?’ ‘Yes,’ he smiled. All the other
animals watched as the two swans flew away, friends forever.
PINOCCHIO
First, Geppetto made some wooden legs and arms. After that, he made the body,
and he included hands and feet. Finally, he made a little boy’s head. Geppetto
made Pinocchio’s eyes, mouth, and nose. After that, he made his ears. Geppetto
worked through out day and night on his wooden puppet. He said to himself, “I
wish Pinocchio were a real boy.”
A fairy heard Geppetto’s wish. She decided to grant his wish and make the
wooden puppet come to life. She said to Pinocchio, “You must promise to be a
good and honest boy.”
The next day, Geppetto was very happy to hear Pinocchio talk. He loved his
wooden son very much. Geppetto smiled. “Now you can go to school with all the
other little boys!”. At school, Pinocchio saw that all the other children had real
arms and legs. They were not made of wood. He was different.
Pinocchio didn’t like school. He didn’t like doing his homework. His teacher
asked, “Where is your homework, Pinocchio?” He lied, “A whale ate it.” Every time
he lied, his nose grew longer.
Pinocchio didn’t like that he was different from the other boys. One day, he was
angry and pushed another boy over. His teacher asked,“Did you push him over,
Pinocchio?” Pinocchio lied, “If wasn’t me.” Every time he lied, his nose grew
longer.
One day, Pinocchio decided to hide from his teacher. He hid inside a big toy box,
but he couldn’t get back out. He shouted, “Somebody help mel!’ The fairy
appeared. “Why are you hiding, Pinocchio?” Pinocchio started to lie. His wooden
nose grew longer and longer. His nose grew as long as a tree branch.
The fairy said, “Why are you lying?” Pinocchio cried, “I’m sorry! | promise to never
lie again.’ The fairy smiled. “You can see a lie as easy as you can see the nose on
your face.”
The fairy decided to help Pinocchio one last time. She set him free.
Pinocchio came out the toy box. His teacher asked, “Why were you hiding in the
toy box, Pinocchio?” Pinocchio told the truth,“I don’t like being different.” The
teacher smiled and said, “We are all different from each other. That is what makes
the world an interesting place to live.” Pinocchio decided that it wasn’t so bad
being different. He started to play with the other children.
Pinocchio went home to Geppetto. Pinocchio told Geppetto about his new
friends at school. The fairy saw how Pinocchio had changed. She decided to turn
him into a real boy. Pinocchio and Geppetto lived happily ever after.
7TH – 8TH GRADES
Once, there was a giant. The giant had a garden, and the garden was full of beautiful flowers, green
grass and peach trees. Every summer, the trees had sweet fruit. One day, the giant decided to visit his
friend far away in the mountains. He left his castle and nobody saw him for seven years!
When the giant was gone, little children found his garden and went there every day after school.
They played in the grass, climbed the trees and sang in the branches. Every summer they ate the
sweet peaches from the trees. They were very happy.
Seven years passed and the giant came back. When he saw the children in his garden, he was very
angry. “Go away and never come back!” he shouted. “This is my garden and nobody can play here!”
He built a high wall all around the garden and wrote a sign in big letters: “DO NOT ENTER!” He was a
very selfish giant, he only liked himself.
The children were very sad. Every day they walked past the wall and remembered the beautiful
garden.
Then winter came and after winter it was spring again. The grass was green and there were beautiful
flowers everywhere. But the giant's garden was still covered with snow and ice. Spring did not enter
the garden, because it saw the big sign. And flowers did not grow there, because there were no
children.
The giant was very unhappy. He looked out of the window of his castle. “Where is the spring? I hope
the weather will change soon.” But the weather did not change. There was always snow, and cold
wind was running around the garden.
One morning the giant was lying in his bed. Suddenly he heard some beautiful music. “What is it?”
he thought.
He looked out of the window of his room and saw the children. They were sitting in the trees and
they were singing. The trees were green and there were white flowers in the grass below. Only in one
corner of the garden it was still winter. A small boy was standing there and he was so small that he
couldn't climb the tree. He was crying.
The giant said to himself: “I was very selfish!” and he went out of his castle. When the children saw
him, they ran away and winter returned. Only the little boy did not run, because his eyes were full of
tears. The giant took him in his hand and put him in the tree. The boy was very happy and he loved
the giant. When the other children saw that the giant is not angry, they came back. They climbed up
the trees and started singing. Now it was spring everywhere in the garden. There were beautiful pink
flowers in the trees.
The giant played with the children all day. When they went home, he destroyed the wall and the sign.
He was not selfish any more.
The next day the children came back and they played in the garden again. But the small boy did not
come. The giant was very sad and asked the children: “Where is the small boy?” The children
answered: “We don't know, we don't know him, he doesn't live here.” And the giant was very
unhappy because he loved the boy. He waited for him every day, but the boy did not come again.
The giant became very ill.
One day, he saw the small boy in the garden. The giant was very happy and ran to him. But the boy
was hurt, there were bloody marks on his hands and feet. “Who did this to you?” asked the giant
angrily. “These are marks of love,” the boy said sweetly.
“You let me play in your garden,” the boy said. “Today, you will come with me to my garden, to
Paradise.”
When the children came to play in the garden later that day, they found the giant dead. He was
covered with beautiful white flowers.
