Session 2023-24
Date: 12th Feb 2024 – 16th Feb 2024 Subject: Mathematics Class: 6
Duration: 70 mins Week: 5 Term: 2nd
Topic: Linear Equations
Learning outcomes (what would learning look like by the
Learning objectives
end of the lesson)
To solve linear equations involving decimal and Students will solve linear equations with decimal and fraction
fraction coefficients. coefficients.
Students will apply strategies to solve equations independently.
Learning Activities:
Resources Whiteboard, textbook
Starter: Begin with a brief review of basic linear equations with whole numbers. Ask a direct question like "How
would the introduction of decimals and fractions change the way we solve linear equations?"
Cross curricular link: Geography (land allocation). Define variables for the land areas dedicated to residential
(R), commercial (C), and green spaces (G). Create linear equations to represent the zoning regulations, involving
decimals and fractions. For example: R + 0.3C + 0.1 G =50 (50 acres total)
Real Life example: (Think Pair Share): Ask students to think where else we can use linear algebra with
decimal/fraction in real life. Give students a moment to think individually, then have them discuss their thoughts
with a partner. Finally, encourage a class discussion where each pair shares their ideas.
Class assignment:
Use this example y/2 -1.5 = 2 – y/3. Explain that the goal is to find the value of y that makes the equation true.
Discuss strategies for converting between decimals and fractions.
3x - 0.8 = 2/3 x. ask students to solve this example on their whiteboards. Take their responses after a few minutes.
Discuss the common mistakes made by the students in the solution.
Differentiate:
High achievers: Q no 6 (d), Q7 part b Ex 5A Book 1 as individual task
Strugglers: Assign Q no 7 (a) Ex 5A pg. 118 book 1
Home assignment:
practice now 3pg 117 Q7 remaining parts ex 5A book 1
Wrap up:
One-Minute Paper: At the end of the class, have students write a brief response to a question like "What was the
most challenging aspect of solving linear equations with decimals and fractions today?"

Session 2023-24
Date: 12th Feb 2024 – 16th Feb 2024 Subject: Mathematics Class: 6
Duration: 35 mins Week: 5 Term: 2nd
Topic: Linear Equations
Learning outcomes (what would learning look like by the
Learning objectives
end of the lesson)
Find the unknowns in the linear equations by Students will be able to solve linear equations using the
substituting the given values substitution method.
Apply the substitution method to find unknowns in various linear
equations.
Resources Whiteboard, textbook
Cross Curricular link: Physics: linear equation is used to find the speed of the moving object as S=D/t.
Learning Activities:
Starter: (10 minutes)
If an architect wants to know the area of a rectangular room, he will use linear equation. Can any one of you
suggest the equation?
Students will suggest the equation which teacher will write on the board A= l x b. Where teacher will give the
value of L= 4 and B = 3 and ask to find the area.
Methodology: (20 minutes)
Lesson objectives will be shared with the students.
Teacher will give few questions to foster the knowledge of students.
Teacher will write a set of simple linear equations on the board, with one variable (e.g., x) such as:
2x + 3 = 7 3+ x = 4
4 - x = 2.
The teacher will instruct each student to choose one equation and substitute a given value for the variable
(e.g., x = 2). Teacher will give similar examples to gauge their knowledge.
Direct the students to write their solutions on small whiteboards, ask all students to show their solutions.
Discuss the common mistakes made by the students.
The teacher will explain a few exemplary questions on the board. Side by side she will take feedback from
the students.
The teacher will discuss strategies of substituting value of x in the given linear equation and students will
be asked to depict the steps involved in solving linear equation in flow chart.
Class assignment will be shared.
Class assignment:
Low Achievers: Worksheet.

Find the unknowns in the non linear equations by Students will be able to find unknowns in the non linear
substituting the given values. (including powers) equations by substituting the given values.
Resources Whiteboard, textbook
Cross Curricular Link: linear equation is used to plot the graph.
Learning Activities:
Starter: Start with a quick review by writing a few expressions involving a variable (e.g., 3x - 2, 2x + 5) on the
board. Instruct each student to substitute a given value for the variable (e.g., x = 4) and evaluate the expression.
Direct the students to display their results on small whiteboards.
Methodology:
Lesson objectives will be shared with the students.
The teacher will give few questions to foster the knowledge of students.
Teacher will write a set of simple linear equations on the board, with one variable (e.g., x) such as:
B=a+c/2 where a=14 c= 12. Or y = (ab -c)/2. Response of the students will be gauged by the teacher.
Direct the students to write their solutions on small whiteboards, ask all students to show their solutions.
Discuss the common mistakes made by the students.
The teacher will explain a few exemplary questions on the board including powers. A=π r 2 and substitute
the values Side by side she will take feedback from the students.
The teacher will discuss strategies of substituting value of x in the given linear equation and students will
be asked to depict the steps involved in solving linear equation in flow chart.
