Subject: Strengthened Pitch Change Parts in Compact
Discuss i o n : Service experience of some 25,000 propellers
operating f o r a number of years has i n d i c a t e d
a need, in certain models, f o r increasing the
safety factor o f the pitch change knob, which 'is
integral with the b u t t of each b l a d e , Another
minor service problem was the f r e t t i n g action
between the stainless s t e e l sleeve, which is
attached to the knob, and the stainless steel
p i t c h change block. In a f e w instances these
steel parts f r o z e together, as there i s no means
t o lubricate this j o i n t for any pex€od of time.
In order to resolve these problems, the two
diameters of the pitch change knob have been
increased; the A-2413 bushing material has been
changed from stainless t o Delrin p l a s t i c ; the
B-2457-2 fork has been strengthened; and the A - 2 2 1 7 4
p i t c h change block redimensioned t o f i t the m a t i n g
parts.
Production
Chazkes : New productfon propellers are incorporating the
above changes a s fast as new parts become a v a i l a b l e ,
These new propellers are i d e n t i f i e d by the letter
"F" added to the hub dash number, and it is a l s o
prefixed to the blade model number, as: HC-C2YF-lBF/ -

F7666A. (Exception: There are no changes in the
dimensions f o r propellers using the small 7663 blade.)

Repair and
Since new production blades will incorporate the
Of
Parts in Old large pitch change knobs (with the exception of the
Propellers : 7663 design), propellers which are damaged and
require new replacement blades will be fitted with
the latest configuration. This change necessitates
the incorporation of new forks, blocks, and buttons
per partts l i s t shown above. In the event only one
blade is t o be replaced, a blade with the small knob
can be furnished.
When a propeller is modified with the 'V'' blades and
corresponding new pitch change parts, the letter "F"
should be added t o the hub model dash number by means
of 8 metal stamp.
When a propeller which has the small knobs is over-
hauled, it is recomaended that the A-2413 steel or
bronze bushing b e replaced with DeLrin plastic b u s h i v s
Use a cement t o secure the bushing such as Loctite
404 or Alpha Cyanoacrylate %At*. Epoxy is also
acceptable.
