Part 1: Summary of the Book:
-Paragraph #1: Write a summary of your book. (In the most
basic sense, a summary tells the who, what, where, when, and
why of the story. Remember the rules of writing a good
summary!)
Part 2: Response to the Book: Each paragraph in Part 2 should
at least 5 sentences in length!
-Paragraph #2: Describe the best part of the book and why you
enjoyed that part. If you disliked the book, select a part of the
book that “turned you off” and tell why you disliked it.
-Paragraph #3: Address the writer’s craft: What is the author’s
purpose? (To inform, persuade, entertain). Who is the author’s
intended audience? Describe what you enjoyed about how the
author wrote the book. Address how you think the author
could have made the book better for you as a reader.
-Paragraph #4: Address whether the book was a vacation (easy
read), just right (right at your level), or a challenge (harder for
you to read). How did you know? Rate the book on a 1-10 scale
and defend that rating. Would you recommend this book to a
friend? Why or why not?
