The preparation for IIM Abstract GD topics is essential for the preparation for the overall GD/PI as abstract topics will either appear in the Group Discussion or the individual extempore. Here are 3 simple steps to begin your preparation for IIM Abstract GD topics: 1) Formulate your reply based on something that you are well versed with to gain confidence: The Abstract GD topic is a chance for you to exercise creativity with your existing body of knowledge. So if you are from the arts, try to connect the topic with something that you have studied earlier. This will dissolve the initial fear of wondering what to say. 2) Make your reply open ended: Always begin the statement to your viewpoint as "Ladies and gentlemen the given topic can be interpreted to mean...." This way other people who are clueless of what to say, will simply add supporting points to your initial viewpoint which makes you the automatic leader of the Group Discussion 3) Break the topic into 10 mini points, i,e formulate replies that are related to the Abstract topic based on - 2 things you read on Sports - 2 things that you saw on TV or movies - 2 things that you read in a business magazine - 2 things related to politics and the Abstract topic - 2 things related to the environment at large This way if somebody has said something really intelligent you can create a new point on the Abstract topic which will turn back the attention on you.
