North Livermore Resource Conservation Plan Unveiled

Tri-Valley Conservancy unveiled its North Livermore Resource Conservation Plan on February 5. The meeting was held at the Robert Livermore Community Center. The meeting began with a Power Point presentation to the eighty attendees by Heath Bartosh, from Nomad Ecological Consulting. Bartosh walked the audience through the highlights of the plan showing the methods used for prioritizing parcels.
How does the Plan identify important lands?

The Plan uses a series of goals related to TVCs mission of protecting lands, habitat and public recreation. The lands were mapped and scored using site visits and aerial photography to provide data on soils, plants, and animals.
What are the conservation values listed in the Plan?

High conservation values are given to prime agriculture lands, endangered habitats for plants and wildlife, sensitive vegetation, and potential trails. Lands with high conservation values are a priority for future conservation.
What priorities in the Plan will be used to determine possible future preservation? protecting biological resources establishing wildlife migration corridors protecting lands around the alkali sink establishing trail corridors preserving prime farmland expanding buffers of existing urban growth boundaries

Changing of the Guard

Jim Perry Honored for His Achievements
Two years ago Jim Perry took on the mantle of TVC Chair. Little did he know how much time and energy it would take to fulfill his responsibilities. On January 15, 2009 Jim was honored for his service to TVC as he stepped down from the Chairmanship. Rik Hansen presented Jim with a plaque as a reminder of the work he has accomplished. We thank Jim for his commitment and service as Chair of TVC and look forward to his continued support as a Director on the board.

New Officers Elected for 2009

Serving as an officer of the Tri-Valley Conservancy is an honor and a tremendous responsibility. The new officers of the Board were chosen because they exemplify high standards of professional conduct and serious commitment to the goals of the Conservancy. We offer congratulations to the following Directors who were installed as officers on January 15, 2009. You can read more about each of TVC officers on our website www.trivalleyconservancy.org. Rik Hansen, Chair Rick joined the TVC Board as an atlarge Director in October 2004 and has served as TVC Vice-Chair for the past two years. Mary Roberts, Secretary Mary was appointed to the Board of the Tri-Valley Conservancy in 2007 by the City of Pleasanton.

Jean King, Vice-Chair Jean has served as the appointee of the City of Livermore to the TVC Board since 2004 and as Treasurer for the past three years.

Karl Wente, Treasurer Karl was appointed to the TVC Board in 2004 by the Livermore Valley Winegrowers Association and has served as Secretary of TVC for the past two years.

New Director
We are pleased to announce the seating of at-large Director Kathy Farrell. Kathy joined the TVC Board in June 2008 and is currently serving as Chair of the Resource Development Committee. She has been a resident of Livermore since 1956. After college she became an employee of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where she was employed for 10 years. She left the Laboratory in 1985 to pursue an entrepreneurial opportunity to own her own State Farm Insurance agency. She is actively involved in the service oriented Rotary Club of Livermore and she is a founding board member of the Center of Community Dispute Settlement.

Preserving Land for Future Generations

We are more than our investments. We are more than the year-to-year or day-by-day changes in our net worth. We are what we do for charity. We are how we treat our family and friends. We are how we treat our dogs and cats. We are what we do for our community and our nation. If you had $100 million or $100,000 a year ago and now you have a lot less, you are still the same person. You are not a balance sheet, at least not one denominated in money.
Ben Stein - New York Times
Volunteers are one of the most important assets of TVC. During 2008 the following volunteers helped with mailings, stewardship visits, the rodeo float and parade, Quest for Excellence workshops and the Jeans and Jewels dinner dance. Without their help we would not be as successful as we are.
