Essiac A Formula for Use in the Treatment of Cancer Dating back to pre-1922 Ontario Chippawa Nation lore, this herbal tea remedy carries with it a history of successful results as part of a holistic treatment for cancer. A French-Canadian woman named Renee Caisse introduced it, in 1922, to modern herbal grimoires. There have been two attempts to have this formula approved by the Department of Health, once in 1926 and again in 1936, but these attempts failed as the conventional doctors of the era proved unwilling to give it a decent trial. In 1977, Ms. Caisse sold the formula to the Resperin Co. of Ontario for $1 ... in the hopes that it would finally receive the testing and documentation that it needs to be marketed as a drug in Canada. To date this has not happened and, were it not for a few herbalists keeping the recipe alive ... it would already have been lost to us. Due to the fact that in excessive amounts Burdock root can interfere wit h the body's iron absorption, care must be exercised with this formula to ensure that the recipient does not over-dose ... the recommended dosage per day should not be exceeded. *note- this recipe dates back to before Canada started using Metric .. all measurements are in Imperial Equipment needed: 4 gallon stainless steel pot with lid 3 gallon stainless steel pot with lid Stainless steel fine-mesh double strainer Stainless steel funnel Stainless steel spatula 12 or more 16oz sterilised amber glass bottles with airtight caps Measuring cup Kitchen Scale with ounce measurements Ingredients 6 1/2 cups of burdock root 16oz sheep sorrel herb, powdered 1oz turkey rhubarb root, powdered 4oz slippery elm bark, powdered 2 gallons sodium-free distilled water 1 - Mix dry ingredients thoroughly (easiest to put them all in a plastic bag, inflate and shake briskly) 2 - Bring water to a rolling boil in the 4gal pot with the lid on. 3 - Stir in 1 cup of the dry ingredients (storing the rest in a cool dark place as the herbs are light sensitive), replace the lid and allow to
