Labor Day
Labor day is celebrated every years on the 1st Monday of Septemberr. It’s a federal
celebration whitch dates back to the end of the 19 century.
It was created to recognize the amny contributions workers have made to America’s
strength, properity and well-being.
Labor Day was declared a national holiday in 1894 by the president by Grover
Cleveland .
The roots of Labor Day grew out of violent events between labor and police during
the Haymarket Riot in 1886 when thousands of workers in Chicago took to the
streets to demand an eight-hour workday. At that time, there were many victims
among strikers.
So why is a controversial celebartion nowadays ?
For most people Labor Day simply marks the last week end of summer and the start
of the school year. But they’ve totally forgotten its origins and its real meaning.
American people spend that week end shopping (it’s the second most important
date after black friday as far as shopping is concerned), getting together and going
to the parade. Then American families gather to share a barbecue with relatives and
friends, they go to attend sports events since it s the beginning os the new sport
season.
