-The anarchist trade unionists were
executed in the United States for
their participation in the struggle to
obtain an eight-hour workday, which
had its origin in the strike that began
on May 1, 1886.

-In the United States, Canada and

other countries this commemoration
is not celebrated. Instead Labor Day
is celebrated on the first Monday of
September in a parade held in New
York and organized by the Noble
Order of the Knights of Labor.
One of the basic demands of the workers was the 8-hour day. One of the priority objectives
was to enforce the maxim of: «eight hours for work, eight hours for sleep and eight hours for
the house. On May 1, 1886, 200,000 workers began the strike while another 200,000 obtained
that conquest with the simple threat of unemployment.
After the Second World War and the
adoption of socialism as an economic
system in many countries in Europe and
Asia, and later in Africa and America, a
new impetus was given to Workers' Day,
while in the capitalist countries of Europe,
the influence of the left parties grew, and
with them the celebrations on this day.

Therefore, May Day became during the

second half of the 20th century in a day
of great official celebrations, popular
demonstrations and military parades
At present, many countries remember the May Day as the origin of the modern workers
movement. There are some who do not, being in general countries of British colonization,
such as the United States of America and Canada, which celebrate Labor Day on the first
Monday of September; New Zealand, the fourth Monday of October
