Hard work has no substitute and this has been my mantra throughout my life. It s with dedication that I have pursued my goals which has been the hallmark of my career so far. It is evident from my consistent performance in academics as well as extra currics so far in my life and I would love to replicate this performance at the post graduate level. In the school days, I was placed among the top three position holders of my class for five consecutive years upto class tenth board examination in which I managed third position in the school. Being from an Industrial Town of Rourkela, I always wanted to grow up becoming an Engineer and sincerely prepared for Engineering Entrance Examinations along with my regular subjects. Efforts paid and with a little bit of luck got admission into the prestigious National Institute of Technology Rourkela. While in college, I took keen interest in academics and was placed among the top 10% of the batch. Moreover I achieved a long cherished dream of becoming a part of National Cadet Corp of which I was a member for three consecutive years and was awarded the B and C certificates. I always wanted to work in the core sector and in campus placements I got offers from L&T Limited and NTPC Limited. I joined NTPC with an expectation of gaining industry exposure and putting all my theoretical knowledge to use. The past 42 months at NTPC have been extremely enriching for me and proved to be instrumental in developing both my functional competencies within the scope of my job. As an Operation Engineer my role is to operate the units by managing the control desk, coordinating with operators stationed at different locations for maintaining the essential parameters, co-ordinate with maintenance teams for emergency and planned/breakdown maintenance and with unit controller and other desk engineers for efficient operation of the Units. This essentially helped me gain a Conceptual understanding of the Power Generation Operations and also understand the nuances of working in a team. My hard work and commitment to my job was instrumental in my selection as a member of the team which successfully accomplished the capital overhauling and annual overhauling of the two different 110 MW units for two consecutive years within the scheduled planned period. However I often realize being bound by the limits of my job description & although I enjoy the challenges of handling the operational activities, I want to be a part of the team that directs the course of the project, a part of higher management strategy and decision making process. To realize the same, I wish to pursue management education to help expand my understanding of the fundamentals of industry analysis. For example, I will benefit with the opportunity to develop my analysing & decision making skills, public speaking ability, exposure to global environment. While my job provided excellent opportunity to work with people and as a part of a team, a greater change can be brought in my approach and thinking if I could earn the right kind of learning in interpersonal skills and team building. IIM-B shall be the right platform to equip me with the requisite skills and relationships to grow as a professional, supplement my knowledge through interaction with professionals & esteemed faculties. With this in mind, I wish to enrol for the PGDM program at IIM Bangalore. I believe that I similarly will be able to contribute to and learn from the academically challenging environment at IIM Bangalore.
