SPEAKING GRADE 12
ENDANGERED SPECIES
1. What effects do you think humans have on wild animals?
I think human activities have great impacts on wildlife. First, we are destroying their
habitats by burning or clearing forests for agriculture or tourism. Thousands of wild
animals have died, and some species have become extinct because of habitat
destruction. Second, lots of wild animals are suffering because of illegal hunting and
poaching. For example, we can see many videos or pictures about rhinos losing their
horns, wild elephants losing their tusks or leopards being killed for their fur
2. What measures can humans take to protect wildlife?
I think we need stricter rules to protect natural areas and the wild animals that live there. For
example, we should stop cutting down trees in the rain forest. National parks are a good idea
because they attract tourists while protecting wildlife.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
3. What are the benefits of AI?
Reducing safety risks is one of the biggest benefits of artificial intelligence. Scientists
program explorer robots so that they can perceive their surroundings and translate
those perceptions back to their controllers. The goal of explorer robots is to go where
humans cannot physically go, or are afraid to set foot on. For instance, explorer
robots can be used to map the ocean floor where they can survive extreme
pressures of the ocean's deepest trench, or they can be powerful tools for studying
outer space since unlike humans they do not need oxygen to operate. As a result,
scientists are provided with safer conditions for scientific research.
AI has brought numerous benefits to human’s life:
In manufacturing, many industries today use highly automated vehicles that can drive with
almost no human intervention. Smart robots have replaced humans in stressful and dangerous
jobs, and in assembly lines doing tasks such as packing and lifting heavy things.
4. What are the risks of AI?
the main reason why some people think that AI might become a threat to human
survival is that intelligent machines may become so smart that they could take
control of humans one day in the future. Robots and machines might be able to
make their own decisions without being given the permission of humans. Without the
necessary knowledge, skills and experience, we might become their slaves. This
could also lead to a war between humans and intelligent machines, posing a serious
threat to the entire world.
There are a myriad of risks to do with AI that we deal with in our lives today.
THE WORLD OF WORK
5. What are some important qualities that will help an applicant to get a job?
Teamwork must be one of the most important qualities, as the majority of jobs require a
degree of collaboration with, and sometimes, managing other people. Even work that’s often
seen as lonely, such as accounting or software development, may involve considerable input
from others. Therefore, employers often look for people who are able to collaborate well with
others.
Many jobs also require employees to be skilled in communication. For example, to become a
receptionist, one needs to be able to clearly get the message across, both in verbal or written
speech, and be able to grasp other people’s meaning, as having issues with this can drastically
impact the job performance.
6. Do you think students can become successful without a university degree? Why?
Students can also choose to work right after high school graduation. For example, a fashion
designer could start working as soon as he or she finishes school, because those types of jobs
require more experience than study. Moreover, working at early ages might help students to
be more independent and responsible in their life, through learning how to control their
spending, how to enhance their knowledge and skill.
CHOOSING A CAREER
7. What is your dream job? What have you done or are doing to prepare for it?
My dream job is to become a teacher. It is a profession that I have always admired
and aspired to. To begin with, a teacher’s job is to impart knowledge and help
students develop their intellectual and social skills. As a teacher, I would have the
opportunity to educate young minds and shape their future. This is a fulfilling and
rewarding career as teachers play a significant role in shaping the next generation.
8. Do you want to take a gap year before going to university? Why?
Personally, I want to take a gap year, as I think it can help a me gain some life and work
experience prior to starting university, as well as develop comprehensively as a person. For a
youngster like me, traveling provides an opportunity to broaden their horizons and learn
about different countries and cultures. Spending some time in another country while working
also makes for a less superficial encounter than only being there as a tourist. Besides, I can
gain work experience and potentially improve my foreign language skills. Therefore,
spending a year travelling around sounds like an interesting experience.
Additionally, a gap year can aid a person like me in becoming more independent and grown
up, as it will require some organization skills and the ability to manage my own finances.
Working for a year can also. As the advanced studies are costly, working for a year before
starting university, which reduces the financial burden of higher education to some extents.
