tool’s plug, as shown in Fig. 1. Repair or replace a damaged or worn cord immediately.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS:
• Make sure the extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one
that is heavy enough to carry the current that your product will draw. An undersized cord will cause a
drop in line voltage, which will result in loss of power and overheating. The table on the next page shows
the correct size to be used according to cord length and nameplate ampere rating. When in doubt, use
the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.
• Make sure your extension cord is properly wired and in good condition. Always replace a damaged
extension cord, or have it repaired by a qualified person before using it. Protect your extension cords from
sharp objects, excessive heat, and damp or wet areas.
• Use a separate electrical circuit for your tools. This circuit must consist of not less than #12 wire with a
20 A time-delayed fuse or a #14 wire with a 15 A time-delayed fuse. Before connecting the motor to the
power line, make sure the switch is in the Off position and the electric current is rated the same as the
current stamped on the motor nameplate. Running at a lower voltage will damage the motor.

WARNING!
This tool must be grounded while in use in order to protect the operator from electric shock.

WARNING!
• Use the proper extension cord. Make sure to use an extension cord that is heavy enough to carry
the current required by the tool. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage, resulting in
loss of power and overheating of the tool. NOTE:
• Use the extension cord only for its intended purpose. Do not pull the extension cord to remove it Recycle unwanted materials rather than disposing of them as waste. Sort the tool and its components in

planed workpiece to dry and cure uniformly.
PLANING SPECIFICATIONS
• Measure the thickest part of the workpiece that is being planed. Make light cuts on both sides.
• Do not plane lumber or wood that is contaminated with metal, paint, dirt, water, or moisture from tree
sap, or wood that is severely bowed, warped or twisted. • Do not attempt to make a deep cut or a cut that is deeper than 3/32" (2.3 mm). Make several passes until
the desired thickness is achieved. Light cuts create a finer finish.

Measure the workpiece at its thickest point. Use the depth scale (1) at the in-feed side of the planer to
approximate the starting point of the first pass. The first attempt at planing is intended to brush the surface.
Fig. 12
It is good practice to measure the workpiece after every planing operation.
• Set the On/Off switch to the On position.
• Slowly guide the workpiece (2) along the workpiece guides into the planer. After the cutter head contacts
the workpiece, pull the workpiece out and raise the cutter head using the cutter head adjustment handle
(3).
• Repeat step 2 in 1/8" (3 mm) of a turn or less in order to lower the cutter head until it just brushes the
surface of the workpiece. This establishes the starting point for the next cutting pass.
• Use the adjustment scale to fine-tune the depth of planing. One revolution of the cutter head
adjustment handle (3) moves the cutter head up or down 1/16" (1.6 mm).

IMPORTANT!
If an additional support is needed for the workpiece, place supports on both ends of the planer, or install the
planer at a depth where the planing surface is level with the workbench. The supports must be at the same
height as the in-feed/out-feed extension tables (1, 2), or the depth of installation must be such that the
workbench is at the same height as the planer.

steps below:
• Remove the cutter head adjustment handle (1) by unscrewing the hex screw M6 (2) and lock washer (3).
• Clean the tool to allow smooth functioning after each use. The tool may be cleaned most effectively with
compressed dry air. Always wear safety goggles when cleaning tools with compressed air. • Unscrew the four cover screws (4) using the 6 mm hex key (included). Remove the top cover (5) and side
covers (6).
• Ventilation openings must be kept clean and free of foreign matter. Do not attempt to clean by inserting
pointed objects through openings. • Remove the dust chute (7) in reverse order from what is described in the section “Installing the Dust Chute.”

• Check all electrical wires and connections for damage. • Use a clean cloth to wipe away any build-up of debris from underneath the cover and the guard.

• Keep motor air openings free of oil, grease and sawdust or wood-chips. • Use penetrating oil (not included) to clean all moving parts and the depth adjustment screws. Apply a light
coat of medium weight oil after clean-up. Apply a light coat of paste wax to the table, in-feed and

Consumers should be aware that the warranty is limited to a specific period from the purchase date and does not cover components subject to normal wear or damage attributed to misuse or improper maintenance. It excludes products used for commercial purposes, those altered with non-manufacturer parts, or affected by unauthorized repairs. Proof of purchase is required, and the warranty may not cover routine maintenance items or consumables. These conditions limit applicability by not covering damage from normal use or external modifications .

To optimize the performance and extend the life of a planer, ensure the cutter head is allowed to reach full speed before use, avoid forcing workpieces through, and make only light cuts to prevent stress on the tool. Regularly check and tighten loose parts and clear debris to prevent vibrations. Use the blade evenly by varying the feeding spots to reduce uneven wear. Plan in steps and ensure workpieces are clean and free of metal to avoid damage .

The warranty specifically excludes coverage for any product used for industrial, professional, or commercial purposes. It applies solely to household use, and only the original purchaser is entitled to the warranty, which is not transferable. This limitation ensures the tool is not subjected to stress beyond its intended capacity, which would otherwise result in premature wear or damage not covered by the warranty .

It is essential to check for metal or foreign objects in the wood before planing because such materials can damage the knife and potentially cause hazardous situations like kickback or injury. Neglecting this step can result in serious damage to both the workpiece and the planer, leading to costly repairs or replacements .

Adjusting the workpiece thickness properly is crucial to achieving a desired finish without damaging the planer or workpiece. Each pass should only remove up to 3/32" to maintain control and quality. Improper adjustments, such as deep cuts, can stress the machine, cause uneven surfaces, and increase the risk of kickback, compromising both safety and finish quality .

Proper use of a planer significantly enhances the quality of the finished wood product by ensuring smooth surfaces and uniform thickness. Techniques such as keeping at least one side of the workpiece flat, using multiple passes for final thickness, measuring the thickest part before planing, and avoiding deep cuts by making light passes are advisable for optimal results. Consistent feeding through different spots reduces uneven wear of the knives, and supporting both ends evenly prevents snipe and depressions .

Misuse or alteration of a planer, such as modifying its parts or using it in ways not intended by the manufacturer, might lead to operational failures like improper alignment of moving parts, binding, breakage, and malfunctioning of safety features, resulting in safety hazards. These alterations compromise the tool's design efficacy and can result in serious injuries due to unexpected behaviors during operation .

Proper placement of workpiece supports ensures even distribution of pressure and prevents sagging, which can cause snipe or uneven cuts. Supports should be at the same height as the planer and extend along the workpiece to maintain stability throughout the planing process. This results in a smooth, uniform surface and avoids depressions or unexpected deviations in thickness .

Feeding the workpiece through different spots on the planer table prevents uneven wear of the blades and work table, maintaining the tool's efficiency and prolonging its lifespan. This practice ensures that no single area of the tool bears excessive wear, thus reducing frequency of maintenance and replacement needs for blades and the table, ultimately enhancing tool longevity and consistency in performance .

To avoid accidental injuries while operating a planer, it is recommended to never stand on the tool to prevent tipping or unintentional contact with cutting tools. Damaged parts should be carefully checked to ensure proper operation and alignment. Always wear eye and hearing protection, keep cutter head and drive guards in place, and ensure hand placement is away from the cutter head to prevent slips. Avoid planing workpieces shorter than 8 inches or thinner than 3/16 inches to prevent kickback, and never stand directly in line with the in-feed or out-feed sides .
