health and environmental properties.
 The hazard category of the waste: the degree of hazard the waste poses to
the environment.

Process of Waste Classification:

Classification of waste is a four-step process:
 IDENTIFICATION of the waste- evaluate against waste definition and determine if it is potentially
hazardous.
 TESTING AND ANALYSIS of the waste to determine hazardous
components/properties/constituents/properties and concentrations to confirm waste hazardous or
not.
 HAZARD CLASSIFICATION in terms of SANS 10234.
 DETERMINE WASTE TYPE AND LANDFILL SITE analyses waste and its residue to determine Waste
Classification and the requirements for its disposal.

Clearly marked containers indicating the type of waste will be placed on each site. It
is the responsibility of the Waste management and housekeeping supervisor to
ensure waste are segregated accordingly. The Waste management Supervisor will
sort waste according to the following:
 Reuse: Items which can be reused – should.

waste – Environ Serve container.
The Waste Management Supervisor is adequately trained in the correct storage and
handling of waste. eg. Fluorescent tubes must be carefully handled with gloves and
placed in a sealable, stable container.

3. Waste storage:
As our scope of work entail that we are only on site for a few hours (not more than 8
hours), we will only place waste in the separate, labelled container for our time on
site. Whereafter, it will be disposed.

4. Waste Disposal:
The Waste Management Supervisor will be responsible to arrange for the disposal of
all waste on site.
All Waste will be disposed off according to its Classification.
Hazardous waste will be placed in Enviroserve hazardous waste containers sealed

obtained from them.
A disposal certificate will be kept in our safety file and will be sent to the specific

Noise
Type of activities taking place on site creating noise will be grinding, drilling.
The impact will be unwanted noise for the shop owners and the public.
Existing control measures are training, awareness and the posting of noise signs.

Fires
Extreme caution will be taken not to manage/store waste/debris in such a
manner where it can be a fire hazard.

Housekeeping

The Housekeeping Supervisor will ensure good housekeeping practices are

followed.
Keep work areas neat and tidy. Pack away tools and equipment not in use.
Untidy clutter work areas result in chaotic and unsafe stacking and storage,
causing wasted time when looking for an item.
If you spill it-clean it up. This should apply to production areas, eating areas,
work areas and any other area where liquids and powders are present.
Obstruction of pedestrian areas causing accident and injuries. When not in
use put away all equipment, machinery, tools and transportation in
designated areas.

The Construction work Manager will take steps to ensure that there is not
unnecessary water wastage.
Ensure that no contaminants or pollution enters the ground water.
Ensure that there is containment of spillages and that a plan is in place for dealing
with accidental spillages.
