Dwarka is one of the seven most holy Hindu pilgrimage cities in India. It is located in the Jamnagar district of Gujarat.Dwarka is famous for Dwarkadheesh Temple, built on north bank of the Gomti River. Famous Sun Temple in Somanth is major attraction for tourist.Janmashtami (birthday of Lord Krishna), celebrated in the month of August/September, is a major festival of Dwarka. Figures for the financial year 2010-11, which were finalized recently, reveal that 2010compared to 2009-10 the overall growth of tourists, which include foreigners as well 2009as domestic travellers was around 15%. An internal analysis by the tourism department revealed that places like Bhuj, Dwarka, Somnath, Gir, Dholavira, Bhuj, Somnath, Gir, Dholavira, Porbandar and Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad saw a growth of over 28% in tourism as compared to the previous year. The State Government so far has allocated a grant of Rs 21.19 crore for developing basic tourist facilities in Dwarka.

The State Government has forwarded a proposal to the Centre for integrated development of Dwarka seeking an aid of over Rs 83 crore. The plan is to renovate Dwarka, apart from development of sun set point, a bridge connecting Okha and Bet Dwarka.

222 Hectare has been acquired by the government some 6 Km from MONTAG project on NH8E to develop New Dwarka Airport.
