Julius Caesar

●​ Little is known about his early life he is one of 8 children

●​ At 18 shake married anne hathaway who was 8 years older than him

family brought home twins, a boy named Hamnet and a girl named Judith,
Hamnet died at 11
○​ By 1592, Shakespeare had moved to London to work as an actor and a
playwright. He didn’t do well in acting, but continued to write.

○​ Eventually Shakespeare became a large shareholder and playwright for the
acting
○​ troupe, the Lord chamberlain’S Men

○​ Play were divided into 4 categories: historical, comical, tragedies, and

○​ Julius Caesar, one of rome’s most memorable historical figures, stood at
the crossroads between the Roman Republic controlled by the Roman
senate, and what came to be known as the Roman Empire
●​ Caesar
○​ Rome was started by twins named Romulus and Remus, who were left to
die as infants by the Tiber Rive, but were adopted by a wolf
○​ The twins decided to build a city at the place where the wolf adopted them.
They disagreed on the site and built two cities. Marked boundaries with
plowed furrow. Remus mocked the boundary by jumping over it and
romulus killed him
●​ Rome
○​ In whatever way Rome was created, its practical start is believed to have
been around 753 BC
○​ The villages on the 7 hills joined together under 1 king
○​ The ear;y kings were local Latins, but later kings were Etruscans brought
great military, economic, and cultural advancement in Rome
○​ In 509 BC, Lucius Brutus led a rebellion against the last Etruscan King and
drove him from power
○​ Rome became a republic ruled by the Senate
○​ Roman Society became divided primarily by 2 groups the patrician and
plebians
●​ Roman Republic
○​ Rome’s central location on the Italian peninsula made it a
merchant-power and the fertile land around it also gave rise to wealthy
and self-sufficient farmers
○​ The republic form of governance and the Roman ideal of self-reliance
created willingness to accommodate society and struggled within the
privileged classes
○​ All Roman citizens had the right to vote; those in power could not ignore
the lower classes
○​ Alliances were forged via marriage and conflict led to divorce suicide
murder and war
○​ A series of plebian strikes around 500 BC won the people greater power,
and they formed the Popular Assembly, which eventually won the right to
mitigate laws passed by the Senate and also created the position of tribune
to fight for their interests
○​ Since the last king had been dethroned in 500 BC and the senate
established as the ruling of rome, Romans fiercely defined their right to
rule themselves
○​ Though the senators involved in the assassination of Julius Claimed to
strike the blow for the republic
●​ Brutus and Caesar
○​ They were the assassins who killed Julius and were forced to leave Rome
○​ Octavius Caesar's adopted son formed an army and joined force w/ the
remaining senators who fought against and defeated Mark Antony
○​ Octavius and Antony, w/ Lepidus seized control of rome and eventually
defeated Brutus and Cassius at Philippi
○​ Antony and Octavius divided the roman republic between them giving
Italy and the eastern territories to Antony
●​ Octavius
○​ The western territories were given to octavius, the alliance did not last,
and in 31 BC octavius was renamed Caesar Agustaus, and he became the
1st emperor of the New Roman Empire
