The Plum Hat

Materials needed:
Caron Simply Soft in three colors
5.0mm hook.
Clover Pom pon maker
Yarn needle
Scissors

Note:
Ch2 at the beginning of the row does not
count as a stitch.

Stitches used:
SS: Slip Stitch
HDC: Half Double Crochet
Magic Circle
INC: Increase (put two stitches in the
same stitch)
SC: Single Crochet
DEC
** repeat

Finished size: ​Kids (3-10 year old) Crown measures approx. 6”

Body of Hat:
With color A, in a Magic Circle, CH2 and crochet 8HDC. SS to first HDC. (8)
2. CH 2. INC HDC in each ST around. SS to first HDC (16)
3. CH 2. HDC in same ST. Inc. *HDC, INC* around. ​Connect color B ​and SS to the first HDC. (24).
4. CH 2. HDC in same ST. HDC in next ST. INC *HDC 2, INC* around. SS to first HDC. (32).
5. CH 2. HDC in same ST. HDC in next 2ST. INC. *HDC 3, INC* around. SS to first HDC. (40).
6. CH 2. HDC in same ST. HDC in next 3ST. INC. *HDC 4, INC* around. SS to first HDC. (48).

Fasten Off. Count 17 stitches, attach yarn and CH 1. Your first SC for the second earflap will be
in the 18th stitch away.

Earflap 2:
1. SC 15 starting in the 18th stitch away from the first earflap. CH 1 TURN
2. Repeat rows 2-11 in earflap 1 but DO NOT fasten off. Continue to edging.

Edging:
Continuing from the end of the second earflap, SC around the entire hat. SS and fasten off. Weave in
all ends.

Braids:
Cut 6 (3 for each side) strips of yarn of each color. 18 strands total, 9 on each side. Mine are just over
2ft (about 25”) and will be folded in half.

Take three strands of each color, fold in half and loop onto end of earflap. Braid. Repeat on the other
side. I would recommend fastening but not tying off braid until the second is done so you can make
sure the tie is level.

Pom Pons:
I used a three inch clover pom pon maker. Attach two pom pons between rows
