Anologous System

Analogous systems are defined as two physically different systems that share the same differential equation modeling. Electrical and mechanical systems exemplify this concept, allowing for the application of electrical analogies to simplify complex analyses and facilitate cross-domain problem solving. The document outlines the importance and applications of analogous systems in control system design, simulation, education, and signal processing.

ANALOGOUS SYSTEM

Prepared by-

Tasnuva Jahan, Lecturer, MIE 1

Two systems are said to be analogous to each other if the following two
conditions are satisfied.

 The two systems are physically different.

 Differential equation modelling of these two systems are same.

Electrical systems and mechanical systems are two physically different

systems. There are two types of electrical analogies of translational
mechanical systems. Those are force voltage analogy and force current
analogy.

Analogous System
Analogous Systems: Electrical and
Mechanical systems possess fixed
analogy and there exist similarity between
the equilibrium equations of the two. This
allows forming such electrical systems
whose behavioral characteristics are
similar to the given mechanical system.
Such systems are known as analogous
systems.
More specifically, it is called electrical
analogous of mechanical system.
Tasnuva Jahan, Lecturer, MIE 3
Importance of Analogous Systems
 Simplifies Complex Analysis
 Unified Mathematical Representation
 Cross-Domain Problem Solving
 Simplifies Prototyping and Simulation
 Enables Understanding of Interdisciplinary Systems
 Energy Flow and System Behavior

Applications
1. Control System Design:
o Analogies help design controllers for mechanical systems using techniques
developed for electrical circuits.
2. Simulation:
o Mechanical or thermal systems can be simulated using electrical circuit
equivalents.
3. Education:
o Teaching one system (e.g., electrical circuits) helps build an understanding of
other systems (e.g., mechanical systems) by leveraging analogies.
4. Signal Processing:
o Analogous systems allow signals and responses to be analyzed in frequency and
time domains uniformly.
