PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

You are being invited to participate in a research project. It is important that you understand
the purpose of the research and what it involves before choosing to participate or take part
in it. Please take your time to carefully read the material below. Kindly inform the
researcher if you have any questions or require any additional information.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the extent to which the Accountancy students of the
Kings College of the Philippines understand fundamental accounting concepts and their
practical applications. This study aims to identify gaps in students' knowledge and
understanding, providing insights for educators to enhance curriculum design and teaching
methodologies. Furthermore, the research seeks to examine the effectiveness of current
educational approaches in fostering a deep and functional grasp of basic accounting concepts
among students.

STUDY PROCEDURES

1. Information Sheet

An information sheet will be provided to all potential participants. This document will outline
the purpose of the study, the procedures involved, the duration of participation, and any
potential risks or benefits. It will also include contact information for the research team
should participants have any questions or concerns.

2. Consent Form

Participants will be required to sign a consent form before taking part in the study. This form
will confirm that they have read and understood the information sheet, and that they agree to
participate in the study voluntarily. It will also ensure that participants are aware of their
rights, including the right to withdraw from the study at any time without penalty.

3. Data Collection

The data collection phase will involve gathering information from participants through
various methods. This includes administering surveys and conducting observations to assess
students' understanding of basic accounting concepts and their application. Data collection
will be conducted in a systematic manner to ensure accuracy and reliability.

4. Surveys

Surveys will be distributed to participants to gather quantitative data on their understanding

of basic accounting concepts. The survey will consist of closed-ended questions designed to
measure comprehension and application of these concepts. The data collected through
surveys will be analyzed to identify trends and patterns.

5. Observations

In addition to surveys, observations will be conducted to gather qualitative data on students'

application of accounting concepts in practical settings. Observations will be carried out
during accounting classes and related activities to assess how students apply their theoretical
knowledge. This method will provide insights into students' real-world application of
accounting principles.
RISKS
There are no known risks associated with participating in this study.
You may decline to answer any or all questions and you may terminate your involvement at
any time if you choose.

BENEFITS

Your involvement in this study will not directly benefit you. However, we are hoping that the
data from this study may contribute significantly to understanding the level of proficiency of
accountancy students in basic accounting concepts and their applications. The results will
help identify factors that influence students’ mastery of these concepts, such as learning
environments, teaching methods, and personal study habits. This information may guide
educators in designing more effective instructional strategies and academic interventions to
enhance learning outcomes. Furthermore, the findings may serve as a reference for students
seeking strategies to improve their understanding and application of basic accounting
principles. Additionally, it may contribute to the broader educational knowledge that benefits
educators, researchers, and policymakers, and guide Kings College of the Philippines in
implementing changes to improve educational quality and student satisfaction.
